    Leaking Power Steering Pump

Went to use my car today (Td5) and the power steering was empty.

After checking it out, I have found that it is leaking from the join between the pump body and the rear housing of the pump.

Has anyone ever changed this gasket or am I up for a new pump?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I had the same problem with mine so I fitted a new one.
I figured that the pump had lasted 11 years and 200,000K's before it died so fitting a new one will outlive the truck so I will never have to worry about it anymore.
I think it cost me about $500 to get it fitted from memory.

You can buy a new gasket from eBay Land Rover Power Steering Pump Uprated GASKET to reseal leaking PAS pump rebuild | eBay

My pump started leaking badly just before a trip away, and ended up doing a repair with RTV. That was about 2 1/2 years ago. If you reseal with RTV do not tighten the two pump halves together until the RTV has set, otherwise you will not have the internal clearances that the pump requires. Also be careful that the internal pump ‘rollers’ are all in the correct places before re-assembly.

Instructions on replacing the gasket here http://abbes-performance.com/index.p...d_attachment=5

I’ve got the gasket ready and waiting for the RTV to fail.

If you decided to replace it, do it yourself. I did my own and it wasnt too difficult. Not need to remove the fan, just wiggle it around and it comes out.
