Thread: Traction Control versus Cruise Control Question:

As far as i know traction control does not affect cruise control,or visa versa.

Traction control will work in both low and high range,it operates any time it is needed.

On a D2 you should hear it operate,and also see the orange light in the instrument cluster,when it is working.

Traction control, cruise control, hill descent control and abs all use the abs sensor output do their job so yes they are co related. TC definitely operates in high range, the distinctive 'buzzing' sound is often heard when turning whilst accelerating on a loose surface. HDC only operates in low range.

Does traction control work in high range? I know that cruise control work at 40 kph or more. Possibly faster than traction control is suitable for. I'd check the user manual but some one has taken my car.

Describe what happened maybe it has some logic... there is the so called VSS(vehicle speed signal)a digital signal which is used by both CC and TC systems and it's generated by the SLABS ECU calculated based on all 4 ABS sensor inputs, there are cases when this signal has a momentary failure which would cancel the CC and affect the TC operation too... usually you'll find a "road speed missing" fault code logged in the engine ECU if it's that.

Not Land Rover related but with BMW and Skoda if you are driving under cruise control and the TC activates, the cruise control de-activates.

I have experienced this first hand with a BMW E90 and a Skoda Octavia.

Do people actually operate cruise control anywhere other than a highway???

In a previous life of testing certain ozzie brand built pos we would activate C/C at speeds from 40 k`s up on a uneven low traction surface for test purpose`s
The T/C would kick in and cut C/C .
So yes people will and do allow the two to meet .
Human`s are individuals and not perfect i hear so are capable of stupid things which have to be factored in to the design and safety concept when building cars

I'd be noice to have enough torque to do that though!!

Aquaplane events are one area I can see both kicking in...if one was silly enough to be cruising in heavy rain with worn out tyres.
but I've known such things to occur....humans can be funny that way.
