Very easy.
1st things first.
check there isnt any junk, coins, lost winning lotto tickets that have found there way into the mechanism from the console.
You need to remove the shift knob/handle by grasping tight and pulling straight up. HARD.
Then the bezel/selector plate panel can be lifted off by gently squeezing both sides at the front and back, around 50mm in, gently pulling upwards.
(there are 4 ratchet type clips holding it down).
Now you will be able to see the mech and check for any interference.
With that confirmed clear you can adjust/check the cable is correct. Dont put the knob back on at this stage.
Park Brake on. Wheels chocked.
Under the car at the XYZ switch you will find the selector lever and the cable attachment point. I recall 15mm. is the nut size.
With the car in park, loosen the nut and make sure the lever on the transmission is "clicked" (in its detent) selected in the P position.
Tighten the nut and turn ignition to on then make sure the dash indications are correct for each position selected by the lever.
With knob removed you will feel the selector detent on the box as each position is selected.
Once satisfied it is indicating and selecting as it should, check the nut is tight and put it back together.
If you find the detent "feel" is correct for the shifter position and don't see the correct indication on the dash, it is probably needing an adjustment of the XYZ switch.
I recall 8mm. The bolt holes are slotted, only slight adjustment with an assistant in the car will/may be required.
Cheers
