I have used this trick to greatly increase the reach of a drill bit.
Just line up the axes of round-bar and drill-bit as well as you can and weld them end-to-end.
A couple of pieces of small angle-iron (or aluminium) nested horizontally one inside the other can be used to support and align them.

    Cheers,

Maybe he could use that epoxy glue they use on building lotus cars
I don`t think he has use of a welder / Oxy Let alone know how to

Just thinking sideways here, M18 x 1.5 is a very common size for oxygen sensors (and old Ford spark plugs) so both taps and sensor port plugs should be easy to find. I have a M18 tap because I used to make oxygen sensor mounts for running LPG computers.

    Hi Rangieman,

Perhaps you know Bohica, or know more about him than I do, and you may be quite correct in your second line.
I have no evidence of whether or not Bohica has oxy-acetylene gear, or knows how to use it.
But, even if that's right, he could do what one might usually do in such a situation, and take the task to someone who can assist him to do it.

The fact of the matter is that Bohica asked if anyone had a method (that did not require a lathe) to reduce the shank-diameter of his drill bit, and I offered him one.

I prefer to wait and see what his response is. That might be more constructive.

Little things please little minds, and the epoxy molecules, uncured are very very little. There are in general lots of people with lots of helpful advice. Occasionally someone just like to poke fun at others. Apart from this reply, I do not lower myself with a response.

The drill with the kit is measured at 16.25mm Bunnings have one at 16mm, reduced shank. I'm not sure if the size difference is a problem. I got confused thinking that the sump plug was 17mm, not 16mm. There are in general lots of people with lots of helpful advice. Occasionally someone just like to poke fun at others.

the size difference shouldn't be a problem, 1 turn in with the tap , then quarter turn back , all the way through , fit helicoil , then , before re fitting the sump plug run half a litre or so of clean oil through to get any swarf out.

I have just sent you a PM.
This may help to stick to the point.

    Hi All,
don't know how easy it might be to get one there downunder, but here we solve the problem with this simple kit: a 17mm tap and 17mm plugs:

Grazie per l'idea. Ho il rubinetto e helicoil, sto aspettando un trapano per l'albero ridotto e l'impugnatura del rubinetto per arrivare in modo da poter praticare il foro,
    toccarlo e inserire the helicoil.

    Ciao
