Start with the basics, check the air filter.

Is there a EGR valve still on it if so throw it away
If its the injector harness you would of heard the engine make a differnt noise or shuttering which Ive found to be the relay for the fuel pump do the same thing on long trips when it heats up you can fined it with the other relays by holding your finger on each one and turning the key to on
the air filter is fine. I again checked the hoses today. Apart from a bit of oil/grease in them, they seem solid. The turbine in the turbo doesn't feel like it's loose, and it spins when the engine is on but that probably doesn't mean the turbo charger works flawlessly.
I also noticed loss of coolant. Put in about 1lt of water when I could just see the coolant level then. I should probably consider an engine saver soon.
The EGR is there and I might get rid of it as a future project.
The engine sounds fine but the problem is probably still there.
Same thing happened to me. Looking at the attachment, you still have the original intercooler hoses. Replace them with the silicon ones. As explained to me, if the rubber hose has delaminated, upon acceleration , the turbo pressure may force the delaminated hose to " balloon" restricting the flow of air to the intercooler. This may not be obvious when inspecting the rubber hose by eye. BTW, a common cause of coolant leaks is , apart from hose leaks and water pump leak [ check the tell-tale hole], leaks from the edge of the radiator. An investment in a fully welded aluminium radiator sorts that out. You can fit one yourself, along with cleaning the intercooler, and replacing all hoses. A great way to get to know your cooling system, and good for peace of mind out in the bush. I would start with the silicon hoses, much cheaper than a new turbo. Good luck, simple things first.
