Ive done the full works on my cooling system and managed to get my d2 td5 up to 100c between Kilcoy and Jimna towing a 1.5 tonne camper trailer, even changed down to low range at one point.... really wouldnt like to take the temp up to 118c though, that sounds like cooking temps!

Are there accessory items like bug mesh, driving lights etc mounted in front of the radiator? These will inhibit air flow and consequently the cars ability to keep itself cool will be diminished.

Hi mate. I fitted a new kit from revotec in the uk that replaces the heavy viscious fan with two thermo fans. Runs a treat and also gives a slight gain in performance due to not having to turn the big heavy fan. If you contact them ask for dave he is really helpful. I hope this helps.

118 is a concerning temperature there.

Have you checked/replaced the expansion tank cap?
The system needs to have pressure maintained.

What gauge are you using to read these temps?

+1 for that^^^ and that mixed with bigger than standard dimension tyres is the recepy for high engine temps... the EGT would be interesting as well cos it might be a fuelling issue too

i strongly recommend you to watch the ECT with nanocom or better fit an auxiliary digital temp gauge cos IMO no electric fan can replace the visous with good results, i've tried 3 kinds including Kenlowe and a big russian 400W one and the ECT went above 105 when it was 30*C outside with all of them(a bit lower with the 400W one) while it never exceeded 95 in the same conditions with the viscous fan so i had to refit that to be on the safe side(i have auxiliary coolant gauge)

And your summers aren't as hot as here.
We've all found pretty much the same thing.

*Just a tip if you are a handy kind of person*

You can disconnect your fog light on the drivers side and connect it to the thermo fan. It is an easy adapter cable to make, 2X 100mm long wires and 4 spade connectors.

This way you can turn your thermo fan on while driving to assist with cooling. I've also had similar issues, at 118 degrees C the auto should begin to struggle and unlock the torque converter. Assuming it is AUTO, but check your EGT if you have a gauge.

When climbing hills perhaps drop it to 3rd gear and get the torque converter locked before you get to the hill. It helps to keep the exhaust gas temp down, and in turn coolant temps down. Assuming again it is AUTO.
