Fan Hub Flange Tool - Td5

    Hi,
I have to change the fan hub bearing on my 2004 TD5 Discovery. Has anybody close to Maitland/Newcastle NSW have a Viscous Fan Hub holding tool that I could borrow. (beer as payment if it suits) Struggling to shell out $200 bucks for something I will probably use only once. Failing that is there a cheaper option?
    Thanks

Make one. Grab a chunk of 40 x 5mm flat steel bar from somewhere, drill two holes in it to hold two of the bolt heads, grind away any part that gets in the way with an angle grinder, bash it with a hammer to create a slight S bend to make it sit flat against the pulley. About $10 plus some of your time.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

I’m intending to only change the fan bearing once. As far as the service history suggests (very comprehensive) it’s still the original at 205,000ks so if it makes it to double that I’ll probably never see it again. I do have fan spanner Fan Hub Flange Tool - Td5 and use it fairly often haven’t needed a flange support thingy until now.

Not pretty, but cheaper than the tool. Works fine.

I have a home made one at Avoca Beach if you are down that way.

In future if you use some anti seize of the thread all you need is a no1 FBH and the proper spanner. Give the spanner a couple of whacks and bob's your aunty.

Thanks Phillip, little further than I wanted to travel. Looks like I’ll be making one on Monday which is the soonest I can get a new bearing anyway. Till then it’ll just have to squeal.

Got one you can borrow mate, I'm at Branxton. It's just a home made job but works well. Have the 36mm spanner if you need it too
