    HELP!!!!! Please.

I have replaced the rotoflex doughnut and the bush. All that turned out to be the easy part.
I can not for the life of me get the propshaft to go back on the spline which is still bolted to the handbrake drum.
I have tried a leaver and have resorted to smacking the other end with a hammer.
I don't want to mash up my new bush.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG ( apart from owning a Land Rover.
All advise would be very welcome.
    Regards, Nick.

Try undoing the handbrake end and refitting diff end first and then handbrake end.

Put the prop shaft onto the spline first THEN fit the doughnut

Yes thanks for your reply.I realise that but the shaft goes on the spline about 40 mm and wont go further.

could be old grease in the splines making it hydraulic ,dig it out and clean , did you mark the shaft so it goes back in the same spot? you will need to have the wheels off the ground with the vehicle supported by the chassis to allow enough droop but I guess you've already done that to remove it. as mentioned, diff end first

    Thanks to all of you.
I have got it back together. I had to smash the shaft on the floor to get the spline to move on the last 40 mm. I then fitted the doughnut and diff end bolts loosley and got the handbrake drum end to slip over the studs.
I then did up the BD end tight fitted the bolts through the doughnut and then had to use a 4 lb. mash hammer to drive the shaft back towards the doughnut till it all matched up.
I would have thought this shaft should slide freely in the splines should it not?
    Nick.
PS yes I marked the shaft.

If the shaft doesn't slide freely on the spline, there will be tears before teatime
