    Wheel Nut Chestnut?

    OK
    First, I have done a search but could not seem to find anything relevant.

    My New/Old D2a has 3 types wheel nuts on it.

    Normal looking wheel nuts.

    Wheel nuts with a concave dimple in the middle. I believe this (according to the owners manual) to be the Locking Nut type.


    Wheel nuts with a curvex hump/bump in the middle. I have no idea why this wheel nit is different, can anyone enlighten me?

    Each wheel should have 4 normal nuts and one nut with a concave head this is the security locking nut it pulls off to reveal the locking nut.

    The convex/hump ones are the spare wheel nuts and should only be used on the spare wheel as the studs are different (longer i believe)

    I think I posted this last time it came up.

    I met a bloke with a D2 in a Longreach Caravan park who said he had the devil of a job getting some nuts off with a pair of multi grips as they didn't have any faces left.

    He was grateful when I found the bag in one of the side pockets at the back and showed him the locking nut key. LOL

    You can use the normal nuts on the spare wheel if you place a washer under them. I had some old RRC nuts which I removed a washer from.

    the nuts with the bump have the longer threads .. that are tapped all the way through the nut, and are for the spare.
    If you try to mount the spare with the normal nuts, and don't use a washer (like Philip said) you risk destroying the threads on the spare wheel carrier.

    Those longer threaded (spare wheel) nuts can be used on the road wheels tho.
