Difflock Pinging but no lights on or faults on nanocom

    Good morning all,

My 300,000 kms mis-behaviour story continues, the car does the 3 pings, about every 10 minutes, same noise I get when I have unlocked the diff and the light has disappeared.

There are no warning light coming on at all, other than that the beast is going great ?

Is it another warning of some kind, or the car is just talking to me ?

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Matt.

Are all the warning lights for the existing systems coming on for ignition self test? watch carefully all the SLABS related warnings. If nanocom was connected in relation with the BCU before that you have to double check all the SLABS , instrument and warning related settings cos it used to modify them without request

Thanks Sierrafery, the culprit has finally revealed itself and it is the diff lock alarm that sounds when the diff is unlocked again.

I have bashed the lever about a bit, but sometimes it keeps pinging about 4 or 5 times over, other times only very occasionally. But certainly enough to be getting annoying. And to confirm the diff light is not coming on when I click the ignition on.

So what can I do to fix, I am guessing there is a dodgy sensor somewhere, any idea how I get to it and test and / or change it ?

    Many thanks as always.

    Matt.

I really doubt that it has anything to do with the diff-lock cos that one is not supposed to have audible warning(or maybe on facelifts only? mine has only the lamp) but if it was that the light should have came on too cos it's on the same circuit and the LEDs are rarely failing... to rule this out unplug the diff lock switch on the transfer case bridge the pins in the plug and turn ignition on...if you see the warning then start looking somewhere else for the initial fault

yep , facelifts have audible warning, pre don't , if the diff lock light isn't flickering on with the audible warning then I agree to be looking elsewhere ( slabs, fuel filter plug etc )
if it does flicker on then you may need to adjust the switch on the transfer case ( jiggling the lever won't do anything)

Thanks Discorevy, it is definitely this and really starting to do my nut in, hearing it I never my dreams now !! How do i get to it and fix ? Will a re-fit with WD-40 work or do I need to order a new part? Any tips on where to find it ?

    Cheers, Matt.

Try disconnecting one or both of the wires first and see if it goes away to diagnose , you'll find the switch on top of the transfer case front output housing on the gearbox side , remove the wires carefully as they are just spade terminals and can be brittle. If that sorts it , then you'll need to try undoing the lock but on the switch and backing the switch out by half a turn to start with.

IMO, the best way to work on the diff lock actuator and switch is from the top. Not the easiest, a bit of effort required, but worth the effort. This link from the UK shows how to fit the remote handle to the actuator. You get good access to the top of the t/case.

Nanocom still does random setting modifications. I recently set the remote unlocking to a single press and found that the nanocom had reprogrammed my instrument cluster to a manual V8. Wondered why i had lost the glow plug indicator and the auto gear indicator in the cluster.

Thankfully I had made a reference copy of the settings a few years back which i could refer to.

    Cheers

Ok, now it is totally doing my nut in, pinging all the time, diff lock light flashing on and off loads, something has changed. I attach a couple of photos of what I have found, 2 disconnected leads, the length of wire is about 8 inches and cannot find anything where they should link to. All work done from beneath, so may be l have to attack from above. Can anyone confirm these are the culprit leads and what they should connect on to ? Cheers, Matt.
