    Retrofit ACE?

    I have bought, in a moment of lunacy, a D2 parts car which seems to have had most of the parts scavenged earlier. However, it does have an auto which allegedly works, a TD5 ditto. It also has ACE. Is it feasible, and worthwhile, to transfer this to my car? I have only ever driven one car with it fitted, and I quite liked it. This was Mario's D2 V8. Not long after, it nearly killed Mario as a repaired ACE line blew. Man, was he lucky. The skid marks were an education.

    Still, is it worth it?

    If you can DIY IMO it's a good system to have but better get the valve block machined to accept hydraulic fittings and make some flexible pipes to the rams before that, like this Disco 2 - ACE fluid weep front of valve block | LandyZone - Land Rover Forum , then you can forget about leaks in that area

    Thank you. Good advice as always from you. That is a good link as well. I guess I'd need to use my Nanocom to tell the car it had ACE.

    The DIY thing should be fine. I guess dirt would be my enemy there?

    Yes you must set the vehicle for ACE..l. if you work on the block or pipes blow everything well with compressed air prior of fitting

    from RAVE:
    CAUTION: The ACE hydraulic system is
    extremely sensitive to the ingress of dirt or
    debris. The smallest amount could render the
    system unserviceable. It is imperative that the
    following precautions are taken.
    l ACE components are thoroughly cleaned
    externally before work commences;
    l all opened pipe and module ports are
    capped immediately;
    l all fluid is stored in and administered
    through clean containers

    Thanks. I recall reading that when Mario's car started leaking.

    I'd say doable, but will take time. BTW I have has my Disco for 2 /34 years, so I am not an expert.

    Well, neither am I. But I have both cars here, side by side so to speak. It isn't going to cost much, so if it doesn't work what the heck?

    Blow me down, the car also has Bilsteins.

    Bilsteins! You'll have a new car when you finish swapping all of the bits over.

    John, I found the ACE very good for fast driving on good winding roads. The system detects side acceleration and compensates for tyre flex, so NO body lean. It tends to stay locked bars more than I liked causing sideways rocking. I installed Graeme's ACE unlock device which allows some manual override of the system for a softer ride. ACE is well worth having, but I don't know if the work involved in fitting it is worth it, I recall from the WS manual that the pipework removal requires cutting, or body off, replacement pipes come as short pipes with joining unions. It is a hydrostatic system so there shouldn't be a lot of wear in the cylinders.
    Cheers,
    Terry

    PS I still have my home made version of Graeme's ACE unlock device, You are welcome to have it if you fit the ACE.
