I suggest finding some of my old threads on this. There have been some issues with some of the new ones sizes. Details such as part numbers are in the thread too.
had the wheel off the disco this morning and found oil on it , looks like the FL axle seal has gone , so looking at doing it my self , what is the part number for the seal and what tools will i need to do the job , was looking at having to get a ball joint splitter, don't think hitting with hammer will do the job like we did on tractors, and any other part i may need when its all apart
thanks

What part numbers have you got for the earlier and later seals? The only one I can find, which according to my copy of Microcat, covers all Disco 2's and P38 Range Rovers is FTC4822. But would be super interested if you have another different part number to suit?
I phoned our local LR agent with my vin number and got one coming, and if its the wrong one hope thy will replace it
Sorry misled you, I was thinking I was reading the diff pinion leak thread and replied incorrectly. I have deleted that post
Yes FTC4822 is the seal you need, and I personally would spend the money and get genuine ones, they are considerably dearer than the cheaper aftermarket seals, aftermarket and so called o.e.m sometimes leak, but having said that they must be carefully installed land rover have a special tool apparently and any grime removed from axle where the seal lip will sit. Possibly that rub mark on the axle may cause a leak on a new seal.
You do not need to split any BJ's, it's easy //wheel off// brake caliper off [hang on a wire not the brake hose]// disc off// undo ABS sensor, extract it and move out of the way gently// then 4 bolts on the hub all the whole lot will come out complete with axle with a bit of force// flick the old seal out and then make or find a installing tool [ i used a adapter from my BJ removal kit], a large socket will do also.
I don't think i have forgotten any steps, as Roverlord said you have to get the right quality seal.
