    Swapping to an eu3

Over the years I have swapped a number of msb eu2 two way pedal discoveries to the later eu3 nnn ones with the 4 wire aap sensor in the airbox, some perform much better than others,I understand the problems with this "mod" but have never been sure why a three way pedal is needed, all the cars I have done were left with the standard pedal. I'm sure there is a simple explanation for the swap but I can't find it, can someone illuminate me please?

This is an extract from the lucas description on the black-box solution page LUCAS TD5 DIAGNOSTIC (LAND ROVER) (SM010)

    Still doesn't tell you anything?

I thought it was another safety check in the system where like the two wire it was a sum of the increase and decrease etc??

Throttle 1 volts: This shows the output voltage from driver throttle pedal potentiometer 1 as read by the TD5 ECU. The voltage reading increases as the throttle pedal is depressed. A fault will be recorded if the sum of the voltages of throttle 1 and throttle 2 do not add up to the throttle supply voltage + or - 10%Throttle 2 volts: This shows the output voltage from driver throttle pedal potentiometer 2 as read by the TD5 ECU. The voltage reading decreases as the throttle pedal is depressed. A fault will be recorded if the sum of the voltages of throttle 1 and throttle 2 do not add up to the throttle supply voltage + or - 10%
Throttle 3 volts: This shows the output voltage from driver throttle pedal potentiometer 3 as read by the TD5 ECU. The 3 Track Throttle Potentiometer configuration is not used on all vehicles and was introduced at VIN Number YA288371 on a Discovery and 1A605426 on a Defender. The selection may be configured in the settings section.

Cheers Lemo, I'll keep looking and see if I can dig something up!

That 2 - 3 way throttle is a setting in the ECU not the pedal's physical status, you can set to 2 or 3 way the original pedal when ever you want... Eu2 fuel maps work with 2 way throttle and Eu3 maps with 3 way... though if you have a Eu2 engine simply swapping to a Eu3 mapped ECU and altering the settings for that would bring you no benefits, on the contrary but if you put a NNN ECU with a Eu2 fuel map the throttle must be set to 2 way and it's no need for the 4 way AAP cos the air temp input is needed only for the Eu3 fuel maps.... the question is what engine do you have Eu2(10P) or Eu3(15P or beyond)?

Sorry to hijack the thread. I have had a NNN ecu put in my Disco (had the MSB ECU), when the car is first started and driven off, there is extreme lag and nothing really happens when you put the foot to the floor, until after about 5 seconds, then it roars to life. This only happens within the first few minutes of driving by the way, then the issue seems to go away. Doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold. The ECU feels like it has been re-mapped at some stage, and has a bit of get up and go. But thinking perhaps there is a setting that needs to be changed, or it's not compatible with my engine after doing some reading?

Can someone advise the correct NNN ECU required for my 2000 Disco Automatic?

    Cheers

I think you need an ecu that ends in 30 not 20, the ones that end in 20 are manual only, then you need the right variant map and fuel tune, but this depends on which ecu you have, if you post your ecu version, I can tell you which versions you need

The ECU for your auto can be NNN000130 or NNN500030 no matter which one as long as it's loaded with the proper Eu2 fuel map so IMO as long as the ECU which is on your vehicle works(even if not too well) all you need is a remap not other ECU provided it's not some other problem which is causing the issue you described caused by fuel supply or sticking wastegate or something

Thanks guys. Yeah my brother has a Nanocom, so will hook it up and see if there are any fault codes.

Also will be getting a new EU2 map from Jose, which hopefully will help!

Will post back with any results.

    Cheers,
    Cam

What I was mainly wondering is what benefit fitting a 3 way pedal has when ruining an eu3 map in a eu2 motor as it seems too work fine as a 2 way..

On another note, is there any way too work out/know what ecu revision a particular car came out with?

    I.e. Would an 03 auto d2a have come with a nnn500030 or a nnn000130?

check the last 8 characters of the VIN, up to 3A811869 was NNN000130 and from 3A811870 and beyond was NNN500030
