    High pitched whistling noise.

Hi all, Just had a bit of mechanical work done on my 2000 Defender Td5 130 HCPU. The brake booster had a crack in it and was replaced with a newie. But now I have a noise that is identical to a boiling kettle on the stove whistling.Rang the shop, and they dont know without looking at it. I'll take it back but, 2 hrs drive. Just thought someone here might know. I looked all over it, checked for anything loose incl turbo bolts. Doesn't make a noise under load, but moreso while cruising at 80,100,110. Edit: Plus touching the accelerator pedal ever so lightly, the whistling will happen.

    Is the vehicle charging ok?
Put a multimeter on the battery with the engine idling, then rev up,
If the whistling changes with the volts it's possibly the alternator, I've had a couple of rectifiers go bad and they can make a high pitched whistle when they do, often they will also drain the battery when the car is turned off

New Alternator a few weeks ago. No whistling until this booster job was done. Did a 600km trip and whistling didn't get worse or better. Brakes working good as. The thing is,just the slightest touch of the accelarator and it'll start whistling???

    High pitched whistling noise

The throttle being related to it means I'd be checking all the induction and vacuum hoses/pipes/joins/flanges. Don't just look, physically remove them and inspect closely for cracks and leaks.

Pay extra attention to anything they may have disturbed during the work.

Perhaps more noticeable when cold, but not always...

Exhaust manifold leak, remove acoustic cover and turbo heat shield, look at front/back for black soot on head.
