Disco 2 sideview mirrors too small

"Mirror too small and too low"
so you want to induce another ( though no car actually has blindspots its just bad mirror management) blindspot?
Have you ever tried to see across (right side) of an intersection when mirrors are eye level? there is a HUGE missing area BEHIND the mirror,, especialy those huge toyota mirrors, which I gather is what you want..
Having mirrors below eye level IN NO WAY compromises its ability to reflect stuff.
Have you ever wondered why all production motorcycles have mirrors below eye level?

I think I understand what you are talking about. I had a Triton, the rearview mirror was in a stupid place obscuring looking ahead and to the left.

I’m talking about the side view mirrors, on the Triton they were great, i got used to them, they obscured nothing, the driving position was high enough above the side mirrors. It’s just that they were slightly higher in profile, like the D3, 4 ones. That and the very slightly convex shape actually helps with vision for me.

Was just hoping there was an aftermarket version, nice, cheapish, easy that was a similar shape

Can you get replacement convex?

I remember my old man had some on his work van back in the day that were stick on, too convex and a bit ****.

It really only needs to be the slightest bit convex

Compared to the other 4WD's of the same era the D2 has far superior all round vision from the drivers seat and I personally have No problems with using the standard side and central rear vision mirrors.
Like Pedro said If you set them up correctly you wont have a problem.

Brother had a Ti Patrol prior to his TD5 D2, and it felt claustrophobic with it's small side glass and restricted rear vision .. and no forward vision when off roading from the massive bonnet.
I'd briefly driven an 80series cruiser and don't remember it being as bad as the Patrol, but nothing like the RRC I had at the time.

Thanks for the replies. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not horrible, just not as good as i’m used to.

I know how to set the mirrors up (rear of car just out of view at relaxed centre drivers position and slightly down to maximise “blind spot” vision). I think I got the tips from a road safety tip Lowndesie did a while back + a friend of mine is a defensive driver teacher and recommends the same.

If you're collecting claustrophobic experiences, try getting out of a P38A and into a Santa Fe! Doors up to your ears, and although the A pillar isn't that wide, it just seems to be in the way all the time!

Oh yeah, and I love the way the P38A mirrors drop when you select reverse. Very handy!

As a D2 driver of a RHD in France, when on motorways towing a huge box trailer, I needed to be able to judge distances properly before pulling out to overtake lorries. So I fitted a flat mirror to the nearside. This much reduced it's field of view but it gave me a decent chance of judging the distance and speed of any vehicle coming up behind in the overtaking lane. The mirror being on the other side of the car from me also reduced the field of view, as you would expect.

Constantly checking is the key to ensuring no one is ever in your blind spot. Some people talk about fixing gigantic Defender style flat mirrors to their Discos, but I have no idea how. All I know is that I tried the strap on extending mirrors and A/ they were impossible to fit any sense and B/ they vibrated so much as to be useless.

Perhaps you could bolt these on. [wink11]
