Three Amigos - ABS wheel sensor fault

    Hi gurus,

Having trouble locating a ABS fault.

    Little bit of history first.

D2 2002 with 2003 SLABS unit with the modified CDL/TC settings etc.

All original wheel sensors as far as I could tell (plugs on guards etc) (Apart from the FRH one just changed)

Pretty sure the wheel bearing are 100% as I get no play at the wheel and the reluctor ring looks ok through the sensor hole?

First three Amigos was the shuttle valve, fixed with option B

All running great for well over 12 months, then did a ball joint replacement and was fine for another few months.
Then started to get a RH front wheel sensor fault periodically, would clear and stay away for weeks!
Now the last few weeks I would just get the three amigo fault and not have any faults logged?? Could clear the lights on the dash.
During this time I did several checks, Ohms readings of the sensors
    rears at LH1.100 - RH1.098
    Fronts LH1.081 and RH 1.076
volts via nanocom 2.19v to 2.17 volts and wheel speeds all matching.

Next I thought it may have been the connection at the inner guard so chopped that out and did a solder joint and thought this had fixed it, but came back a few weeks later!!

I usually would get the three amigos first up driving out the drive turning the wheel and giving it a bit of gas!

Now ordered a new OEM long cable sensor off Mario and installed this on Friday (did a solder joint under the dash to the original cable) and first drive thought I was on a winner but about 1km up the road and they're back!!!!
This time I'm getting the RH front output intermittent logged (Wasn't before) and will clear etc.

So did some more testing as follows

    FRH 1.057ohms (New sensor)
    FLH 1.081ohms
    RRH 1.089ohms
    RLH 1.100ohms

Volts in order of display on the nanocom
These will also fluctuate a little

2.21 (this is different and would be the new sensor as previous it was 2.19)
    2.19
    2.19
    2.19

All wheel speeds appear to be the same.

    So what next??

Possible fault internally on your SLABS? I’d try refitting your original SLABS unit and see if that cures the issue.
    2014, MY14 Discovery TDV6, Fuji White (2018-Now)
    2003, Discovery 2a, Td5 Manual, Zambezi Silver (2012-2018)
2007, Adventure Offroad Campers, Grand Tourer (2015-Now)

Three Amigos - ABS wheel sensor fault

After you installed new RF cable you saw intermittent right front fault. Has this fault persisted? Or are you now just getting 3 Amigos sans fault codes again?

Even if there are no visible signs IMO you need a new hub, that fault code with internittent output in 99% of cases is caused by the hubs.... i have the feeling that with the old ECU will be worst cos it's more sensitive to signal fluctuations, i hope i'm wrong
    Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned

Other way round, 3 amigos sans fault with original FRH sensor
Changed RHF to new and now getting the intermittent.

That’s not what I wanted to hear!
What do you think causes the hub to go bad?

I don’t know how sensitive the signal is to hub play but, by fluke, I recently found a hub was absolutely, totally shagged.
I was chasing a front end shake, had checked for bearing play with wheels still on, none obvious, so moved onto brakes. Pulled caliper off and found more movement in the rotor and therefore hub bearing than on the morning after a vindaloo.
I had a few intermittent faults the week prior on a rough hill climb but didn’t note the codes at the time. I’ve since changed the hub, haven’t driven anything quite as demanding since but have not had a fault.

Intermittent to me says bad earth or hub. Since you’re only getting it on one wheel I’d agree the hub is next port of call.
