yeh got one cheap from WA and am undecided to use on the 300 TDi or TD5 but was thinking the TD5 as an Auto will consume more diesel than the manual 300 TDi so an extra 40 or 50 litres would not go astray

Yeah, from a quick look under my v8(has ACE and SLS) I think the drivers side looks clear of paraphernalia to allow a sill tank.
Only issue then is weight balance, with the added 40kg fuel on the RHS.
One plan I've had in mind for my D1(for a while, no time to seriously look into it .. is maybe a series of ploy piping(say 4") with 180 elbows to make a water tank on the LHS.
If I ever fit a sill tank(or tanks) .. or whatever .. I'd like to balance them out a bit more. Plus the added bonus of a tank of water (you can never have enough water ... also as 'ballast' if needed.
If not needed, let it flow out onto some parched land .. etc. etc.
I reckon could probably fit about 3 lengths of 4" pipe without too much underhang.
Question for sill tank owners users ... do you still fill them from within the car? ... or is there a way to use external filler neck.
Arthur.
