    AUTO BOX BRACING. ??

hi folks , need some input about whether i'm doing the right thing.
rebuilding td5 on farm. not undercover. currently have engine out etc.
auto box supported by timber packer and jack .
i have to relocate the car. no choice !!
    so,

1:- intend to fit some sort of packer into bell housing to stop torq.conv. from moving forward.

2:- looking into engine space i think if i fitted a piece of 2" by 4" or similar across the front of the box with ends resting on chassis rails,
then bolt the auto box to the timber using existing bolt holes. that should give enough support to box as i move car around as required.

    what do you think ??

    am i missing anything.

    thanks for input.

Sounds ok, as long as the TC is locked in so it can't move forward at all, and the weight of the box is supported at the front. Might pay to check the the gap from the face of the TC to the face of the bell housing in case it does move you'll know if it's still seated correctly before you reassemble. Some one else might like to confirm also.

Wedge another piece of timber on the inside of the bell housing to hold the torque converter in situ .
Face of bell housing to bolt face of TC should be 98 mm on td5

    thanks for the input.
had planned to double check distance from face to torq. before i fit engine.
found a thread here which relates last 3 nos of box serial nos to the distance of torq. to face of bell hse.
i'll check distance before and after .
    thanks again. :-)

I've seen a video where they use a ratchet strap across and under the box?
