Factory Radio/CD player

Slowly ticking off all the niggly jobs and the radio has come to the top of the list (for now anyway). I have replaced the battery and as a result the radio is requesting the security code. Fortunately the car came with all the paperwork for this.

So the issue is when I enter the code, the radio brings up "wait 30.00" and the 30 minute countdown timer starts ticking away. When it gets to all the zeros it requests the code again, and again, and again. You get the idea.

Has anyone experienced/heard of this or have any thoughts.

Had a similar problem in my 2012 Defender. We didnt get the code when we bought it second hand and after a service the radio was dead. Contacted land rover via the suport line and they said if i can provide the VIN and radio serial number, copy of the rego papers they will request the code from the factory.

Took about three days and the email turned up with the correct code. Note the Defender hand book gives wrong information about which to press to activate the unit after you have entred the correct code, and i am not sure which one either as i am not sitting in front of it but think it is preset channel button 6.

In all seriousness- toss the piece of rubbish and fit something from one of the Audio experts.

I was thinking of doing this with ours, but I wonder about dressing up the 1.5din hole when you insert a single din unit.

If not an issue Don, the standard hole is a single DIN slot with the corect surround, the 'standard' unit's face drops down to cover the surround.

I just slid the stock unit out and installed a Pioneer single DIN head with a patch lead.
No other mods necessary.
I now have full Bluetooth audio and phone.
I'm happy.

If I installed a steering wheel with the radio controls I'd need to do a bit of soldering into the OE harness.

I replaced mine with a Alpine head unit - single din. Only thing I would change is to get a digital radio. Went cheap on the radio, mainly because I was living without one for 4 years.

It is also very easy to get the steering controls to work with the head unit for about another $20 - $40. Bugger all extra work.

1. Generally any radio you like
2. Pac Steering Wheel Control

Also watch this (YouTube ) and honestly, following the instruction. That easy. Make sure you earth the radio as per the instruction. As I said follow the instructions.

The video is not our car, but the advice is still valid.
