That's caused by the electronics inside being originally from a Rover 75 or Mini key (that uses a transponder) rather than from a Disco.

Hi gents
Great info in this thread but I'm still a little confused.
I have 2 good keys and fob cases but transmitters have failed, keys work fine.
Where would you recommend i get new transmitters from?
Where can I get them programmed?
I will need to call LR security code also?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated
I have purchased 2 through an eBay seller and both won’t program via nanocom, I have done my new d3 key from same seller no problems, but the d2 keys are proving to be a headache.
I have updated nanocom to beta version, contacted seller to confirm the code, tried different versions of the numbers( letter instead of zero etc) had the black box solutions tutorial running whilst programming to ensure correct steps are followed.
After updating nanocom my original key started vehicle but wouldn’t lock doors, so I reprogrammed this key with no problems.
Waiting to hear back from seller to see if there is another batch of keys I can swap for.

Have you had a look inside the case at the circuit board.Quote:

The usual failure of the transmitter is that the micro switch under the button controlling either lock or unlock has become detached from the soldered connection.
You can buy new micro switches on ebay or at Jaycar.
It is fiddly but doable to solder in a new switch.
Another test is does the light come on when you press the button?
If it does the receiver in the car headlining has failed.
I have reprogrammed 2 fobs with nanocom no problem. The easiest way is to read the code from the paper tag on the transmitter circuit board.

Ditto what Philip said re the micro switches.
I have two here atm that I need to repair.
One is still working kinda working as while the top of the switch has detached I can still get it to function.
The problem I have is the copper pads have fallen off the pcb so i dont think i can solder a new switch.
Who is the ebay seller who sells the transmitter?
Also can you advise if there is someone that can program the fob in the Burwood area or happy to travel if required?
Either eBay or Landrover dealer, I’m not having much luck with the eBay ones, but others have had no problems.

Did you get one from Aussie remotes by any chance?
