Thread: D2 key fob programming

I have returned the key fob that I recently purchased to the seller, who was agreeable to refunding the cost in full.
Thanks to Discorevy and Sierra for helping with that decision!

Now I have 2 other questions about using Nanocom Key Programming.

1) In the BlackBox video on this, and in the screenshot attached, what is the function of the "UPDATE" button at the bottom LHS of the Nanocom screen? This button is not mentioned in the video.


2) Is it possible to remove code entries for keys that do not exist, or that you just don't want?
Take the lines "Key Code 3" and "Key Code 4" in the screenshot.
If you only have 2 keys, and wish to remove the entries for the superfluous ones, what is the procedure?
I have tried just removing them, as at the beginning of the BlackBox key programming video, but they don't stay blank.
Instead, they seem to be replaced by the same or a different code, that the BCU or Nanocom appears to generate by itself.

Can anyone who has successfully removed unwanted key codes explain how to achieve that, please?

Thanks for posting those pics up of the fob's circuit board. It is totally different to the "rover 75" one i bought a while ago on ebay which is missing the immobiliser chip, which Sierrafrey put pics up on the forum some time ago. So there is now a third fob version to be aware of. Interestingly the ebay one i bought replaced the circuit board immobiliser chip with a separate chip wedged into the plastic case.

I can't help you with what the update button does but I was able to clear unused key codes using the nanocom. When I bought my D2 almost 10 years ago it had an extra couple of keys programmed in, which I removed as a security precaution. Not sure how it came to be but i have some suspicions. From memory I just programmed blank values in the appropriate field.

Isn't that UPDATE to Confirm/Enter/Save any changes that you have just made?

Well, one would think so, I agree!

But it is simply not mentioned, nor shown being used, in the BlackBox video on how to programme a key to the BCU.

Has anyone out there actually used it to any beneficial effect?

I had to bring my Nanocom firmware up to 1.36b otherwise with 1.35 I had rf detected ok and message saying it was synced but it failed in practice.

The notes for 1.36b do mention a fix for key programming issues, once I updated the firmware it all fell into place easy nano peasy.

And I got a cheap $30 key from KEYECU Auto car remote key, key shell, Transponder Key of all brand (they have 315 mhz and 433 mhz) and $10 at local shopping centre locksmith to cut blade.

Hi All,
I recently received a new D2a remote key-fob that I ordered online.

I noticed that the two halves of the case didn't seem to be fully snapped together, so I gently opened it (as you do when the battery needs to be replaced).

Inside was a loose item that looks like an electronic component, but has no "solder-able" contacts on the outside ot it.
This is it (actual length is 12 mm):

It fits neatly into an identically-shaped recess in one side of the fob case, but as far as I can see, it cannot possibly perform any function.

Does anyone have any idea what this object is, and whether it has any purpose, even though it is not electrically connected to anything?

Hi. That's not a D2 fob, it's for Rover 75, BMW, or Freelander and that bit is a so called "transponder", these are quite often sold as D2 fobs by some schmucks . If you have the 6 digit code on the PCB you can sync it to the D2 but it will not completely disable the immobiliser and you'll have to give unlock command again if you dont start the engine within few seconds after the vehicle was unlocked.
