Hi All,
After 18yrs my current (and only) key fob is looking tired & worn for my ol' trusty d2. So, rather than wait for the fob to disintegrate on me at the worst possible time (far away from civilization, which is usually my ideal camping trip) I've taken the pro-active step of acquiring a new one....now I just need some help to have it programmed.
If anyone can help out, in the SE suburbs of Melbourne (I'm in Rowville), please let us know, that'd be very much appreciated.
Cheers

Sure can.

Yep, barcode's in the bag with the key thanks to our good friend ebay. And, definitely, an EKA mod to low single digits is definitely on the cards as I have a combination of numbers and letters, with letters corresponding to +10 turns of the key.
I obtained my EKA from Land Rover Australia after first changing contact details with them by providing them a scanned copy of my VicRoads rego and licence. All done in under 24hrs . It'll be also possible to obtain your key no. from them for when you need a key cut in an emergency situation.
I am owner no. ??? of this vehicle and have had it under my wing for 3yrs now and have only ever had one key....just prepping for the inevitable when it finally goes kaput (and no it ain't just a flat key fob battery!...I carry a spare always too)
My plan is to have a spare fob but also get an additional bar metal blank key cut....just to cover all bases.
Thanks again johntins, will PM you shortly.

The barcode is needed only for other equipment(Hawkeye, lynx, etc) nanocom needs the short code which is on the PCB(the code can be only numbers or combined with letters)

When you get the key blank cut don't take it to a place in the mall that copies your old one - it will be worn and not accurate... I know.
Get the 4 digit code from LR and go to a professional who can program it into their machine. I used a place in Blackburn which was excellent and cheaper than the guy in the mall!
I've also got a nanocom and deleted some additional codes that were in the BCU so only have my current keys registered.

@sierrafery, thanks heaps for your post. Just flipped the pcb in the key fob and voila...
@jwb, you just saved me going down the same path...I was looking at going to a locksmith but was simply going to take my original key. I'll get onto Land Rover Australia to get the key code for my VIN. Do you happen to remember the locksmith you dealt with in Blackburn? If you could let me know, that'd be much appreciated...definitely not too far out of my way.
Thanks again to everyone...if I could cut someone's hands off I'd give aulro 4 thumbs up!
I think it was Bond on Railway Pde.
The fob I bought has a 'feature' where it unlocks and starts the car fine but if you unlock and there's some time before starting the immobilizer re-sets and you have to press the unlock button again. Other than that it's all good.

It happens cos it's an identical Rover 75 or Freelander fob not a D2 one and it's missing the hardware which works with the D2's passive remobilisation coil, i'm sure that if you open it you'll not see the pointed part:
Fob transponder chip.jpg
or if it is there it means it's a problem with the remobilisation coil's circuit
