    Aha! OK.

It seems you need to weigh up the pro and cons of one setup over the other.

put up with the vibes that a uni causes or original donut prop and no vibes.

I think it was Slunnie(??) that also went through the same issue.
fitted a uni to the rear prop, found it caused vibrations, went back to donut.
    Arthur.

Yep, Slunnie had a TW rear shaft but has gone back to a donut as he uses the car for touring and not hard core off road these days.

Really odd. The donuts of using the German made stockers.are very durable. I mean hard trips and over 100,000k durable...so he might have used cheap ones etc. Land rover would not have saved money in my view going to the donut so there was a good reason, namely to reduce vibration. One of the best things about a D2 is now smooth it is for such a competent offroader. The idea of introducing vibration with a uni joint doesnt excite me personally. I have changed the donut once in my D2 in 350,000k and it had not failed (preventative maintenance) and it's a manual v8 with a lot of weight and 31 inch tyres and a lot of offroading and towing 2 tonns... cheers

    Cheers

So I took the prop to a local engineering workshop. Way out of balance and terrible workmanship and an incompatible range of parts used which had made it to heavy. The spline is also flogged out.

    That sucks...

So are you going back to a stock shaft?

I have installed a disco 1 V8 rear uni to uni prop. It has fixed all my vibration issues.
