Was the vehicle you had the checker on a disco?

I actually quite like the look of it on the bonnet but I can’t justify the expense and hassle if it doesn’t have a practical use as well (i.e. being able to stand on it, at least standing on it close to the windscreen)
Naa, had checker on the Deefer.
I had to to cover the dings in the guards!

It was good to climb up on to get to whatever I had to get off the bar on the roof.
    Or to spot off.
Step onto the tyre and swing up onto the guard. Or up from the bullbar.

Unless you had the bonnet reinforced to take the spare I don't think it would take the weight well, and you'd probably end up cracking the bonnet around the hinges if it was used too often, at a guess.

The Disco is unmolested, it just has a bull bar.

Not sure the bonnet is strong enough to stand on, even with a layer added. Could be wrong.

It's actually less than the polished bonnet from my experience with the pieces on the guards.

Cheers, yeah, seems like the consensus is no good for standing on without reinforcement. I might just keep it simple and paint it matt

I had a couple of customers with defenders with checket plate on the bonnet and the sun reflection wasn't pleasant. A bit like sitting in an unpainted tinny in the hot sun
