    The Landervan

    Hi Again,

May I present to you our humble Landervan! We've done a few trips in in it now and finally got around to sorting through the photos and then working out how to post them on here.

We really needed a vehicle that was completely self contained so that we can get away for a 1-3 night trip or a day at the beach where we can setup the bed and have an afternoon snooze before driving home later in the evening hopefully avoiding the weekend traffic. Not able to afford or even want a new vehicle such as a Hi-Ace or iLoad and we didn't really want to get rid or our beloved MrC either. So after some quick measuring to make sure it would work the answer was to take out the 2nd row seats and install a sleeping platform with storage underneath.

We tried some plastic drawer ideas but then those Titan drawers came on sale and the extra cost (vs more of the connect-it stuff) was not a lot for a set of ready made drawers. So we went with that.

The drawers were attached using the existing 3rd row seat holes for the rear bolts and the cargo barrier holes for the front bolts. Couldn't use the tie down bolt holes as they were too far forward. The rear bolts were supported with some channel nuts under the carpet.

The front section/frame of the platform is made from the connect-it stuff from Bunnings. It ties down onto the front of the drawers.
Slide the front seats all the way forward, pop up the head rest section and it's done.

We originally tried our self inflating mattresses but it was not a good nights sleep so some 2" foam was bought instead. There's just enough head room for me to sit up inside. Tina has her bed on the front passenger seat which works just perfectly.

The silver privacy screens are some underlay stuff we found that has good insulation too. Attached with suction caps to the windows.
Next to make are some fly screens for the windows for summer camps.

Pictures tell the rest of the build story. Will upload more pics shortly.

    Cheers
    Peter

I love your work mate. There is actually a lot of space in the back of those discovery 2's. I guess the more gear you can store will mean less stuff on top of the platforms in transit, making it easier for camp pack up/camp setup.

It looks like you have a very use-able camp area.

Wow! That's comprehensive photography! Great work. Love those rectangular alu tube things. Built a camper bed and cupboard system out of them and it was fantastic.
