Great to read your threads somewhere on the internet, since I am a new guy in Td5 world, I would love to hear more information from you to help me understand the impact of resetting the Td5 ECM by disconnecting the battery while having/not having the tuning box CS2. Thanks a lot [thumbsupbig]

I say again then M8: YOU DO NOT RESET ANYTHYNG in the Td5 ECM by disconnecting the battery, it's like you say that you reset a bulb after you switched it off then on... it's EEPROM which is not feed dependant also the ECM is completely cut out of feed when you switch the ignition off so for the ECM swithcing the ignition off = disconnecting the battery , only the SLABS and BCU are partially sensitive to the battery disconnection not the ECM...if you heard about a kind of ''hard reset'' which is applicable for CAN_BUS vehicles it has nothing to do with the Td5, believe me or not

the fact is that i dont want to make any profit on you by telling you fairy tales like those who sold you that piece of sh*t which gave you the joy of a better responding throttle in the detriment of your engine's longevity, as i said i made experiments on my own vehicle with 3 different kind of power boxes, one of them was on the MAP/IAT input like your's, others different, i can't tell which one was the cause but i ended up with a reputable's firm remap after i paid for 5 bran' new injectors, a new AMC head(which cracked) and a new turbocharger (which was cooked) all of these failed in about 50K km of nice responding throttle without having EGT and ECT gauges ... i have them now and i consider myself wiser after around 5000K dollars spent on my own ignorance...

Well put.
So does that mean that with the benefit of hindsight, if you had fitted the gauges first, then gone crazy with your other mods, you may not have destroyed your engine?
Assuming ECT is turbo pressure as I can't recall at the moment and am not near my gear to check, what do you recommend as a reasonable maximum to retain longevity etc?

Thanks a lot mate. Your short story definitely is worth $5,000 right on the screen already. I would fit the gauges asap I can, while keeping the eyes wide open on the car. Still looking for a reputable remap firm in Sydney or around Australia that I could do the remap job in a good time (I reckon that I have to ship my ECU to their place which would stop me using the car for the family during the remapping process)

Yes, if i had fitted the gauges from the beginning i could have backed up in due time i think....
ECT = engine coolant temp

As i see your's ia a 2001 modell so most probably MSB ECU which must have the chip replaced... what i did was that i found a friend in UK, i've transfered him all the money via paypal to buy a good used ECU from a breaker for 100 GBP, he sent it to Alive for remap then posted it to me with royal mail though i'm sure you can find a good remapper Down Under... anyway, a much better choice than any external plug-in box is this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Land-Rover-...p/283035652986 ... i've tried both versions myself after the gauges were fitted and the EGT was within decent limits with good results in power but i wasnt pleased enough and went for another remap which IMO is even better... i have 3 ECMs with different setups and 2 more replaceable chips at this time

Great mate, I looked at the link you provided before but was not sure if I was ok with soldering the new chip into the ECU so I bet I would wait for the right option later on after passing all sorts of the learning curve with the TD5.

Currently will fit gauges first, then wait a bit to get a TD5 Manual, before jumping all into the Chips game. I really can't wait for a TD5 manual for my own drive, while the auto will be driven mostly by my wife (until she wants to upgrade / change to another car). I like my current TD5 Auto but for sure I love the manual more than the Auto in my whole life.
