    thermostat stuck open?

The car seems to take along long time to get up to temp. Could the thermostat be stuck open? Is there a way of testing this with the thermostat in place? I'd like to know if I need a new thermostat before I replace the radiator. (Save running aound when the rdiator is out)

    THanks

A Td5 in traffic stop start crawling along will take ages to get up to operating temp .
Take it on a Hwy or Fwy at 80 + ks and it will warm up super quick i find

In winter the temp gauge gets to 'normal' on the drive home. This is not happening now. In any case, what is the preferred thermostat opening temp? What is the standard opening temp?

Im guessing maybe with your recent issue`s you need to bleed the coolant system correctly
    Seems a coincidence you think

I have had a similar problem with my 2001, auto . Went from Townsville to Brisbane and return with NANOCOM connected and and never got over 78 c day or night. I have a new radiator which was fitted prior to trip so cooling system was to notch. Anyway bit the bullet and replaced thermostat with an 83 C new one , results gets up to 83 on nanocom and averages out about 90 c on a long trip . Im happy with the result. Vehicle seems happier as well. I recall in a post someone saying to cool is not good for the TD5 engine.

I don't see how the coolant can flow up out of the pipe. It does when the motor is turning of course. I do not get the waterfall sound as the air goes through the heater matrix. As I am changing the radiator I may as well change the thermostat while I am at it, as a preventative measure. (I think the thermostat is buggered but.)

The whole three pipe plastic bit gets replaced? How to not swap over the two smaller pipes!!

I had a similar problem a while back. Like you I thought it was the thermostat. In the end it was a dirty connector on the coolant temperature sensor easily fixed with a bit of contact cleaner.

    cheers
