I can see both sides. My local mechanic gets me to supply all of my parts, I am guessing because if something goes wrong he can say “well - you supplied the part”. I get most of my stuff from Dave (British Car Components) and never have an issue. [emoji1303][emoji3]

IF you supply the part you dont get warranty labour. You pay for the work to be done your part to be fitted and after that you are on your own. The same applies if I give you the "this part and that part also need to be changed" or if as part of you wanting to supply the part means new bolts/gaskets/other are supposed to be used and you dont supply them but still insist I fit the part.
If I supply the part its all covered
Theres a caveat if you happen to have an account with one of my parts suppliers and want to do the legwork of getting the parts from one of them AND you provide the invoice at the time of installation. In that case if its a part failure you get to do the legwork with the supplier first and after they approve and provide a change over part it gets done.

I dont fit customer provided repair/service parts unless the boss says to.
Seriously if you are paying $100+ a hour to get work done on your truck why on Earth would you bother using dodgy eBay parts.
Even if you are doing the work yourself why would you put an inferior part in your truck (******* comes to mind here), There is a reason why some parts are cheaper than others and it isn't because they looking after you.[bigwhistle]

I get ALL of my work done on my D2a at Whyatts in Geraldton And believe it or not their hourly rates are less than most of the other workshops in town despite their extensive expertise when working on Landrovers.
I have Never questioned any invoice for the work I have had done there because ALL the parts used have been Top notch and the workmanship and service has been excellent.
I am pretty certain that they would never fit a inferior part just to save a couple of bucks, Like always you will get exactly what you pay for at the end of the day.
I did have a problem with the transfer case I had rebuilt once But it was sorted within a heartbeat and at NO cost to myself which is Far better than buying some crap off eBay and whining that it wasn't fit for purpose when everything turned to mud.
If you want to do the work yourself then find a GOOD indy and buy the parts from there, eBay can be good But it can turn to tears in a heartbeat Why would anyone bother buying something of unknown quality when working on your pride and joy anyway?.

My 2 cents worth and the only work i out source (Diff work) and i have also recommended many a member off this forum to a mate with his own W/Shop that is a guru with Diffs[thumbsupbig]
Not once have i let him source the parts needed nor the members from here that have used Cam ,
He has asked me to source the parts required and also the people i have recommended from here [wink11]
He is more than happy to fit supplied parts [thumbsupbig]
Not once have i had any issues or warranty claim with the parts i sourced from Roverlords or Ashcrofts and not once have i had a issue with Cams workmanship nor any of the happy forum members that i have recommended from here.
So is it right that one shop does and one doesn`t .
One thing that does erk me is the over inflation of prices a fitter tries to charge for such parts that a consumer could buy the same quality cheaper [bigwhistle]
Each to their own and as a consumer it is your choice what you choose to do .
There are plenty of "professional" mechanics that use proper parts only to do a dodgy job fitting them. I am in the school of thought of, use the best part you can get, why do a job only to do it again in 6months time. I also personally do my own work on cars and the reasons are, I think if you own a 4wd and plan on going bush you should really know how to fix as much as possible on your car, and the other reason is I can do the job to my standard or where i am happy with it (I am very fussy with things). I have been burnt a few times with mechanics doing jobs on cars only to have to repair it again latter as the job was crappy. Please note I am not saying all mechanics are like this just my experience with them over the years. And another note the old land rover tax that gets added on really doesn't help the cause much either.
I agree with others in saying you should have just gone to ebay or paypal and got your part replaced or money back, they are pretty good at dealing with cases like this.
Again this is my view and opinion only it is not a personal attack against anyone
