    Faulty parts

Hi recently I brought a fuel pressure regulator of eBay this part was genuine land rover after about a month after it was fitted it started to leak I thought that I had fixed it but it still leaked. So I rang land rover Australia the customer relation officer said because you didn't buy the part from land rover and didn't get it fitted by them they wouldn't honour the part warranty. So I hung up and rang fair trade they said that if the part is faulty or not up to the job it was designed for that I'm entitled to a refund or replacement of item regardless of where it came from as long as it is a genuine article so I rang Land rover Australia again and explained what fair trade said this time they had a whole new attuited and all of a sudden were very helpful. Now I explained that we the current land rover owners are the ones that will most likely go on to buy another Lane rover but if they treat us badly that there core customer base would go buy another brand while I was having my rant at them I also explained that just because someone walks into there show room wearing hi vis or looking a little less business class doesn't mean they couldn't afford there product. I also explained just because my car or someone else's Land rover was old didn't make it any less a Land rover the customer service manager was taken back a bit by me bluntness but as a truck driver and construction worker I'm not used to breaking my feelings gently so he got a very blunt option of what I thought of the way Land rover Australia treated us the Land rover faithful .

Why didn’t you go back to the eBay seller.....??

A lot of eBay sellers sell "Genuine" parts that are Not Genuine at all.
You could easily have got your money back via PayPal or by opening a dispute with eBay.
If Landrover didn't sell you the part then they are not at fault.

You must be feeling better after that??

I have a policy about fitting customer supplied parts. I don't.
One day some of us repairers won't be here to repair your landy for those that need us to, if people won't support the local shop, supplier or service provider.

You can't possibly expect a company like landrover to warranty a part supplied by a non affiliated ebay seller??? Laughable.

Maybe their attitude changed after they received the first serve over the phone...😑😑😑

Every time i buy something on eBay i know that i am taking a calculated risk But usually i save a lot of money and am happy with my purchase.
If i am unhappy with a purchase i go through PayPal and get my money back after the item has been returned, Simple.

Pretty sure you can get parts for a S1 in Landrover packaging.....pretty certain Land Rover wouldn’t be replacing them

Surprised they know what a D2 is

I have a slightly simpler method.
If I buy anything via ebay, it probably cost less than $20-30 ... and so if it fails, I can't be stuffed to bother about chasing up refunds and or returns.
Life is way to short to waste on trivial stuff.

If parts are going to be expensive(items), I always use a local store.
Luckily no issues so far with any LR parts .. but I did have a recent issue with my alternator.
I ended up getting an OEX brand replacement from my local parts place .. and by local I mean literally around the corner. (and the walk supposedly does me some good).
11 or so months later the pulley came clean off it's shaft.
Walked it back to the store, a day later they called me saying the replacement was in, walked back to store(supposedly! ... got fitter in doing so ... I couldn't feel it ) back in the D1, and running fine for the past 13 months and 22K klms.

Cost me nothing in grief, time, anxiety, verbal/literary abuse hurled at others .. etc, etc .. ie. minimal energy output required on my part!
Supposedly got fitter too with the 1-2 min walk to the store(although right knee disagrees with that assessment), always nice greeting someone you know(even tho you don't really know them).
Tom, the main counter chap, usually lets me know if they have any specials on oils, or other bits and pieces I may want/need.

I also think that the expectation on LR to honour a warranty for a part off ebay was a bit of a stretch.
The Chinese are infamous for the creation of faux genuine parts. I mean how hard is it to make a small parts box with landrover logos plastered all over it and pop in a cheapo part.

Refunding through Paypal takes much less effort than your entire response to this thread.

Let me know what you would like to buy from Ebay and I'll make sure I do my best to sell you some crap which you won't request a refund for. I might be able to retire early if there's enough with that outlook to buying from Ebay.

100% agree with this. You would have to be on Ice to think you have a chance. Either ignorant, gullible, naive or a fraud.

I see a few land rover mechanic's here to put there two cents in if you knock back work just because the car owner supplied the part and you couldn't make a mark up profit on the part you still get paid for labour there are many eBay sellers on here and they give a great service if you as an independent service provider knock back work then don't bitch about someone going through eBay to sour e parts. If my mechanic decides to put supplied parts on my car he gets paid for his time and if I have a problem that's my problem not his and he knows that the ebay supplier after going through eBay where you can ask the seller a question he confirmed he was a land rover provider and a land rover dealer .
