Low tyre pressures on the beach allows you to negotiate the soft stuff and Momentum is your friend But there is No need for high speed on the beach, In fact if you are travelling too fast on the beach things can go pear shaped in a heartbeat.
I have never broken a bead on my D2a on the sand but i have on other types of 4WD's due mainly to excess speed at low tyre pressures.

The Disco2/P38 rims hold the bead so well, better than any other rim I know of. They have such big lips behind the bead. I run oversize tyres, but I'm straight down to 12psi on the sand and it just walks everything.

If you are having ride quality problems on 16's dont even think of going to 18's...:bat:

struts MUST handle low profiles better than live axles...

Or maybe the inferior beading design of other rims compared to LR/D2?

The tyre guys Do tend to hate the D2 rims as they are buggers to break the beads on them, I have had my D2a down to 12psi on a couple of occasions and haven't had Any problems.

I have had a couple of tyre guys complain that it is hard work to get the tyre off the standard Defender rims.

I have often wondered if that is because they have a slight ridge similar to tubeless rims.

If so, is that part of the reason so many Defender drivers seem to run tubeless on standard rims with no problems?
