    Oil Pump Failure

So Friday night I done my usual 250km drive out to the property, everything ran beautifully, the head was recently done on the TD5 and for once all the stars seemed to align.

I switched it off and had to turn it back on to drive into the garage, thats when things sounded a little different, metalic and rough.

Had a look at it Saturday, certainly not idling well, solid misfire and white smoke.

Checked for hoses, checked for oil, none of the usual culprits, Hawkeye showed no codes.

Run it some more, let it warm up, long hard metalic sound still ever present, it didn't have enough stick to move.

Came to it today, ripped out the injectors thinking maybe an injector washer, while they were all out, off with the fuel hoses and blow some of the diesel out of it and that's when I realised, there was no oil flowing out the top of the cam carrier.

On Saturday there certainly was as the oil was running down the side of the block.

Engine turns over by hand ok, turns over on the key ok, turbo is a bit stiff.

Have I perhaps caught it in time?

    Hi

No oil light ever illuminated, comes on at startup and goes out as normal, I done the head myself, was machined by Southside in Brisbane, has done 10,000 since rebuild.

Top of the engine is wet, Saturday there was oil leaking out when I turned the engine over with the rocker cover sitting on top, just drove out to rip out the injectors and take a look and there's no oil now bubbling up when its cranked now.

It was running before I took the injectors out, it had a misfire (hawkeye had -24 -22 -0 +23 +24 on the cylinder roughness) and 2 injectors were clean, 3 had carbon on them.

Injector clearances were perfect, rollers and rockers all oily still.

Was checked and locktite 3 months ago, sump is nearly off, will see

Update: Sump dropped, oil pump bolt still firmly attached, chain attached, pick up had a significant amount of RTV up in the pick up

Wondering if maybe with reduced oil flow a stuck lifter could have been keeping a valve open?

Have also pumped up the coolant circuit to 15psi however appears to be leaking out the 2 core plugs under the inlet manifold, will have to do them tomorrow just to rule out the head gasket again
