Seeking assistance on D2a mods and Nanocom use

    Greetings All

I've only just joined and introduced myself.
I was hoping to be able to meet up with fellow D2a owners in Bris who have experience in what mods should and shouldn't be done to my 04D2a. I'd like someone else to drive my one and give me their opinion on it. It is a TD5 Auto btw.

I've owned it from new and it now has 200k on her. Having recently purchased a Nanocom I'm a little out of my comfort zone (no experience) using it to make changes to my vehicles performance and would welcome any hands on learning opportunities. It went into coolant alarm recently on a trip and I tow 2.5T.

Is there a definative list of must have, nice to have and avoid mods out there?
Are there any 'go to' dyno tuners in Brisbane with TD5 experience?

If there is a member or 2 local (Bris south side) who could help me out with a test drive and assesment, that would be appreciated.
Happy to provide beer n prawns in exchange for time n knowledge. Alternatively if you're interested in an offshore fishing trip chasing a few fish we could do that.

Pls reply or pm if you can assist.
    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers
    SJ

Welcome to the forum and although I drive an 03D2a I cannot help with the tuning mods. There are a few very cluey D2 guys on here and I am sure someone will be along shortly.
We do like photos, so post up a couple when you get the chance.

Welcome to the forum SJ why have you waited so long, you will certainly have some interested members with beer and prawns on offer.
I have my alarms set at 105 it will go off on a hill if I don’t drop back to third towing 2 ton van, I assume you know how to tow with the auto, I can’t help with a dyno tuner either I’m happy the way my 2-2t brick with 100 kw goes.
Btw this is the best forum in Oz for members willing to share their knowledge.
    Cheers

Thanks guys for the welcome and advice.

I've been using the nanocom emulator and had a play with it connected.
Is there anyway to get gearbox temperature info on these? Or will I need seperate sensor probe and gauge if I wanted to see those temps. Is there any such kits out there already?

I popped the ecu a couple of days back to find oil everywhere after having some serious misfirings and jerky driving. So I've now received a new harness to change out. Did the usual contact cleaner thing and left the orange seal off the red plus to let it drain. I checked ecu oil 6 mths ago - nothing and never had the problem before. So hopefully the harness change will give me a few more ks. Have a tad over 200 thou on her now.

I decided to change thermostats to 78c model, install new vdo maf, drop the centre muffler for a straight centre pipe and change all cooling n turbo hoses to aid engine cooling and gas temp management.

My ecu is remapped as per TRS from shortly after I bought in 04. Is there an advantage in getting a new remap from TRS or Jose for towing specifically?

I'm hopefull the above actions taken will restore power and economy as the fuel consumption has gone up considerably in the past year.

Still keen to know of a knowlegable TD5 dyno tuner in QLD or NSW. Happy to drive 500-600kms or more if need be.

Looking for egt probe kit too now - any recommendations or feedback tips welcomed.

    Thanks all. Cheers

Welcome - we have the best of the D2s with the 04 TD5 auto.

Re fuel - any chance your injector washers are leaking?

Nanocom doesn't read trans temp as far as I know. I went to the trouble of fitting a quality larger trans cooler in front of the radiator (via our local trans gurus) with auto cut in fan and sensor in the pan because I occasionally tow a 3.5T brick. My pan sensor reads below max oil temp and the best place for pickup is apparently just as oil leaves the trans en route to cooling. Never seen mine above 66, and I recently posted some ATF temp info from Ashcrofts in UK - their website is worth perusing.
Don't know their pricing, but wholesale transmissions in Vic do trans cooler kits including temp gauge.
Make sure turbo probe gets fitted pre turbo for best results.
Sounds like you should initially contact MR Auto? in southern Qld on all of your questions - they get good wraps on here.
My EGT kit is a quality digital one made here in AU, but most seem to prefer the sweep gauge.

SADLY SOLD MY04 D2a TD5 auto and MY10 D4 2.7 both with lots of goodies

    Thanks Gavin.
I'll ask the mechanic to check the injector washers when it goes in this coming week for the harness, centre pipe and other bits n piece to be installed.
    Cheers
