    Anchor Moaning D2

Just lately my 2000 D2 diesel has developed a high pitched moan over 2000 rpm under load. I suspect it might be the turbo bearing going. But before I start on that road, is there something else I should be looking at first. It sounds like its sucking air????????

Interesting- I had something similar it was part of the front drive shaft at the point of fail- if it goes and you keep driving it has the capacity to take out your transmission!

This was a high pitch noise at the front of the car- but don't recall it making the air intake/sucking sound- sounds like yours is different

Pull the intake tube off the turbo and check the shaft for smoothness, endfloat and up and down movement , check your modulator vacuum hoses while apart and feel your intercooler hoses for softness, if your hoses are using worm drive hose clamps check them all, every one you can see anyhow. Be careful refitting the intake tube make sure it sits home.
To check the exhaust manifold gasket you can reach behind the turbo and take photos with your phone for broken studs or blowing soot, I just did this today on mine as part of my 12 monthly maintenance.

    Moaning D2

I had a high pitch squeal which got louder when my exhaust manifold bolts snapped, cylinder 1 and 5 and visible soot around gasket.

    Moaning D2

Gents thanks for the advice. It was the exhaust flange not what I suspected.
