Any time mate. Keep her cool. I see you are not running a top hose inline thermostat. Mate I removed the 3 way and put in a too hose Mezzere and wouldn't go back. Cheers

It is in my mind to do this at a later date. Just waiting for the coffers to fill.
For now, I need to do something about the PAS pump. I bled it again last night but still no good. Will have to wait though, off to Nhill this weekend to see the grandchildren.

Good news at last, everything is up and running as it should.
New PAS pump and low temperature thermostat installed (thanks to Roverlord). Coolant topped up with red OAT.
Steering really is very smooth, much nicer than before I stuffed the pump.
Looking forward to a short period of trouble free motoring, if that is possible.

An interesting point during my engine replacement: While torquing up the passenger side accessory bracket, it became obvious that the outside most bolt into the head was not going to tighten. That however didn’t stop me trying. The bolt snapped off, so I had to re-remove the A/C, ACE and PAS pumps, and bracket. The whole time panicking about how to get the broken thread out the front of the head.
Fortunately there was half a thread sitting proud of the head which I was able to turn with the help of vice grips. Again fortunately, I found a spare bolt. It was 5mm shorter than the original so I swapped it with the centre top bolt as I figured there wouldn’t be as much stress for it in that position. So, everything back together again and torquing up. Again the swapped bolt on the outside position was stretching, so out it came (before it broke this time). Just what are these bolts made of? 40nm is not particularly tight.
So that was it for the weekend, new bolts required.
Lying in bed that night I had an epiphany, the four bolts I bought to mount the motor on the engine stand and set aside for future use, seemed about right.
Next morning whacked them in and all good.
I suppose the point of this story is that if, when tightening these bolts it feels like they are stretching, they probably are.
