also SF I have two atf coolers and do max 20K changes,, so I am the totally wrong guy to discuss factory fluids with [wink11][smilebigeye]
go see all the D3/4 auto boxes all needing rebuilds due to "Filled for life"
all because LR didnt want to dispose of the fluids...[bighmmm]
Whose the ZF rebuild expert here in Australia? Is it still someone in Melbourne?

So in an overall sense even tho it's lower viscosity, it maintains it higher in the temp range than an older tech oil(or in this case trans fluid).

Dex VI is lower right across the temp range.
The two fluids discussed above are full syns and extremely temp stable.
They have very good/high viscosity indexes, at least equivalent to a Dex VI fluid.
Most Dex VI's are semi syns, too.
Most all multigrade oils will shear a little or a lot in use, full synthetics are generally much more shear stable as the base oils have a higher viscosity index and so need lower levels or sometimes no viscosity index improvers added to them. VI's are polymeric thickeners added to a base oil to give it multigrade properties and are the things that eventually shear in use.
I called A&B Automotive Transmission Service & Repair earlier. They advised only Dex 6. When I asked which oil he’d use if it was his car he said that in the shop they only use Castrol, which, unless I’m reading the Castrol website wrong, is pretty much only transmax z.
Hopefully the oil will fix the problem but he said that it sounded like wear on the clutches which will mean a $4400 rebuild. Fingers crossed but this is a 19 year old transmission.

When I do my next service change and I opt for the Penrite full syn, currently using the semi and get an extra 2x smoother shifting🤣

I emailed Wholesale Auto Transmissions about gerabox rebuilds for a TD5,( must have been doing someone a favour[bigwhistle])
and the outcome was they would rebuild the box till it could handle whatever power you made,,
From outcomes on this forum, these guys and A&B would be my choice for an improved rebuild,,
