Quick fix for manual internal boots?

G’day, in the middle of a CDL instal and now that the transfer case plate is off I can see that the internal rubber boot/gater has a slice in it. Can’t be great.

Having trouble locating replacements online and also don’t really want to get stuck in the middle of the instal waiting for postage, so wondering if anyone has ideas on how to patch these up rather than replacing?

    Many thanks, Will

Found this talking about the top boot, but there isn’t a solution, any ideas since this would be great. I’m actually more worried about the inner boot... that’s got to be letting dust into the gear box :/

Whether it will work or not I dont know but Superglue glues together this sort of rubber really well. Needs to be clean obviously.

Thanks that sounds more fiddly than I can handle!, I ended up giving in and found one on eBay that will be here by Thurs. Knew it was a good idea to wait until the daily driver was away for a few weeks to get this done

Can’t see the top boot though... that will have to stay.

Wondering now how much of my gearbox grinding is due to grit coming in this way... not all of it but seems like something the mechanic would check when you go in with that prob.

Hi Ian, the internal boot yes. Can’t find the one that attaches the transfer case plate so I’m going to leave it.

Unfortunately the top boot is no longer made.

Yes did eventually find your thread from last year which concluded that :/
I got the bottom boot in the mail today and thought that if I was really keen I could use some of the rubber from the old one to patch up the split in the top boot with super glue. Bit of a stretch and prob can't be bothered!

    Any ideas?

Here's what it looked like when I took the bottom boot off... while I have it accessible is there any little thing I can/should do about the gunk at the top of the box?? Imagine it's only the tip of the iceberg anyway but thought I'd ask.

Tried that, didn’t last long. Just split again along the existing ones.

I was lucky to source a second hand one from England in very good condition. I am getting a spacer made up to suit my body lift to reduce the strain on the boot and hopefully make it last.

Nugget is is looking at it for me and hopefully he might also be able to come up with another solution for the boot after he returns from his escapades through the desert.

    Cheers, Chris
