My Life with Bessie AKA D2 2000 Model I purchased last Saturday.

    Hey Everyone,

Just thought I would start an new thread in regards to my new(to me) Discovery 2 - 2000 Model. Affectionately called Bessie (anyone know the Doctor Who reference?).

I have owned her for nearly a week... yay me

Issues that I have encountered so far (2 I knew about the rest I didnt.)

    1. RH DS Window regulator stuffed (Knew about.... no biggy).
    2. RH Front Wheel Sensor seems to be dodgy (Knew about.)
    3. FPR leaking.
    4. Clunk at rear of vehicle, usually when decelerating.
    5. Front windscreen leaking.... found at last night thanks to the current Adelaide weather.
    6. Horn and Cruise Control not working.
    7. Cigarette lighter not working.

Ok so what have I done so far:

    1. Purchased window regulator from TRS here in Adelaide ($125) Hopefully I will be fitting regulator this weekend.
    2. This morning I sikaflexed around the front windscreen, hopefully that fixes that issue.... will find out soon enough once it rains again.
    3. Have ordered a replacement regulator and seal kit for the FPR. TRS quoted $225 for a reconditioned one.
    4. Have checked the fuse and relay for the horn and Cruise Control, however the fuse is ok and swapping out the relay does nothing. I will need to do more testing on this over the weekend.
    5. Havent even looked at the cigarette lighter, that is right down the bottom of my list of priorities (However it may be the simplest to fix lol).
    6. Had TRS read and reset the error codes. Indicated that the RHF wheel sensor was faulty. After resetting the codes the 3 amigos went away. Now once every couple of days I get the TC and ABS lights come for a visit. When I turn Bessie off and back on again both lights disappear for a couple of days again. Could this be an earthing issue, dirty sensor or an issue with the Sensor connector?
    7. The clunk that occurs...Well ive not done any fault finding on that as yet.

As I find more issues and fix what I have already found, I will add to this.

    Have a good day.

    Matt

Welcome. There is a wealth of information and advice here. It sounds ike you need a new hub.

    Your car is yellow?

You can get parts from Roverlord, on this forum. PM him with the part number. You can find the part number at Microcat - Spare parts Land Rover catalogue in English

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

I had a cluck on deceleration that turned out to be the transfer case. I rebuilt it and the clunk went away. If you go back to TRS ask them to take it for a drive around the block. That’s how I diagnosed mine. It might be the shims in the centre diff. That’ll need a rebuild if it is.

Hopefully it’s not, but if it is, when you rebuild it put in an Ashcrofts ATB centre diff.

Horn and cruise might be the steering wheel Clock spring.

If you don’t have the FPR yet google the Bosch part number I believe it’s from a VW Jetta then get the FPR gasket and o ring kit from Roverlord.

I found TRS a bit over priced on spares

    Weekend Update

    Just a quick update.

Yesterday I got a chance to replace the RHF Drivers door window regulator. Was easier than I thought it was going to be, and only took me about an hour.

Also added more sikaflex to the front windscreen as it was still leaking. At the moment it seems that I have fixed the leaking issue.

The FPR replacement parts should be here this week, so will be replacing them in the weekend coming.

I also bought a new stereo to replace the stock stereo that was in Bessie. That was a quick 15 minute job

    Cheers

Just a quick update. Bessie is holding her own at the moment.

Today I correctly tensioned the bolts on the FPR with new torque wrench. Also Got the chance to replace the air filter... wow the old filter was black and dirty as.

It may be my imagination, but Bessie feels a lot more responsive now than she did prior to replacing the Air filter.

She goes into TRS on Wednesday to get a couple of things done that I am unable to do myself. Will update this post once Bessie has returned.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Cheers

    Good Morning everyone.

Hope that all the Dads here had a good Fathers Day!!

OK so took Bessie for a trip out to Goolwa and surrounds yesterday and while washing my car this morning I found a puddle of oil in the area indicated by the ring on the photo.

Can anyone tell me why oil would be sitting there and then leaking down onto the ground?

check the oil return line below turbo. can't recall if it has a gasket / "o" ring. also check where it goes into bottom of engine.

There’s a gasket. If it’s the turbo drain hose there should be oil at the turbo/drain hose joint tho.

It’s not a loose oil filter causing a slow drip is it?
