Thread: Pod or Rack & stuff?

As a rather large family we are pressed for space when travelling.
Despite having to take 2 cars when we all go somewhere & on holidays (should we ever have one) we would be towing the camper we are still pressed for space.
So, I was thinking of putting cross bars on my full length LR roof rails & putting a large Pod on the roof to carry pillows, sleeping bags & other light stuff.
Then I thought, if I get a full Roof Rack I could chuck all sorts of stuff up there, fuel, axe, shovel, annoying children & so on.
But then I thought, if I put pillows & sleeping bags on a rack they will have to be in some sort of weather proof bags, more money, & having to have lashings & all the other stuff.

Either way I'm 5'6" & will probably have to carry a ladder as well to load/unload said rack or pod.

What does the brain trust reckon?
Will the LR roof rails take a large pod?
