    Disco 2a Electrics...

    Hi Guys,
I've been away for for a while with a couple big events over the last 18 months, one of which was a big accident in my beloved Rangie Classic, that saw me leave the road, vehicle into a tree and then catch fire with me knocked out in the drivers seat. But thanks to some people who stopped and dragged me out, a bit of hospital time and about six months off work it all worked out ok. Unfortunately the range is no more though.....but has been replaced with a great 2003 Disco 2a, which now I have a question about.

About a month ago noticed a change in the sound of the right hand indicator. All of a sudden it was ticking about twice as fast as the left hand one when you turned it on. Shortly after I noticed that the rear right hand indicator on the body and on the bumper had stopped working. Because of the two seperate location I thought it was a fuse. Next I checked the bulbs. I have replaced both the bulbs and the fuses and still nil result, no rear right hand indicator, while the brake lights, rear headlight (red lights), and the left hand indicators all work.

Any thoughts on what this electrical gremlin could be would be greatly appreciated.

I hope everyone is doing well and thanks in advance for your knowledge and help.

    Cheers,
    Jules.

Did you fit led globes? All lights flashing? All four of them?

If you didn't fit LED globes(which may or may not work) .. also check the condition of the indicator bulb seat, and it's wiring.
had a similar issue with the lights on my D2 project, where some lights didn't work, even tho bulbs confirmed to be OK, sprayed with WD/contact cleaner(whatever I had on hand at the time), fitted/removed/fitted bulb a few times, one more spray, some more rust(could have been red dust) seeped out and lights all OK again.

So basically, just have a bit of a muck around with the body light assembly, check it's tracks for continuity to the wiring, etc.

Dunno about yours but in my D2 if more than one thing starts playing up it's either a fuse, a relay or an earth point. Youé got the fuse and bulbs covered so I'd be looking at the earth points that serve the indicators.

The issue with that mindset, is that you do yourself no favours. I tend to use that methodology too (hard to break the habit), where you assume the fault is 'the usual' issue.

Some time back, I had brothers D2 with me, and noticed it had no brake lights.
Went through all the 'usual' things like brake switch, fuse(s), wiring .. did my head in.
Never thought to check the most obvious thing(s) .. the actual bulbs!
All three bulbs blown. Technically, easy fix .. just did it the hard way.

Double check for both power and earth at the globe holder with a test light, I’ve had a few occasions where the globe doesn’t make contact with the power pin.
Does it have a trailer plug? Test for the indicator there, it may have broken at the join of the trailer plug wire connection at the main loom.

    Thanks for all the help

Thanks to all for the quick replies and advice. Seems like the consensus is the earth and power supply. There is also a fair bit of dust in the unit so i reckon when i get home tomorrow it will be a hit with the comressor and then checking the wiring. I will keep you posted but thanks again for all the advice and help. Much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Jules.

Yeah I know It's a long ingrained habit though. Apart from a brief love/hate affair with an Alfa 1750 Berlina and a short, purely hate affair with a Hyundai Sonata, for the last 50 years I've only ever owned English cars including five LR/RR.

Typical old school LR,, no real rhyme or reason why they blow bulbs,
mine ran fine for 3 years and then two in a week...

Luckily I have a jar of spare bulbs for just such an occasion!!

I had similar with a d2, each direction had a separate relay and one of those was suspect, I swapped them to start with to see if the fault moved to the other side, initially swapping fixed the issue but after a while the issue appeared but on the other side so replaced both relays
