    Fourth Year of Ownership.

The first item at the start of the 4th year was mundane, oil change, filters change, all three.
Fun on September the 23rd. I had to replace the green pipe from the fuel pump. That was a fun job, what with lowering the fuel tank to improve access.
Back in January 2018, a car ran into the parked car in front of my parked car and bent the crush cans slightly, and put a small dent in the bull bar. After 9 months of wrangling the insurance company I was able to install a winch bar. Well the panel beaters installed the winch bar. I installed the winch.
Also in October I replaced the rear bumper trim that was damaged in the snow.
December I replaced the radiator, which had been leaking for about 2 1/2 years. I only found the leak, 12 months earlier when I removed the intercooler for its final clean, post Provent install.
Luckily, in a way, the temp gauge and Nanocom showed very low temperatures. So I also changed the thermostat. Boy was that fun to access with my short arms and fingers and a belly that makes the arms seem shorter.
At the end of January 2019 I shredded a tyre. The air came out and on rough tracks I did not notice the harsh hard ride. I have since bought a TPMS to keep an eye on things.
Coming home from that trip a Mazda 2 ran into the back of the car. I was stationary, looking at the rear view mirror, just in time to see the driver gaze at her phone and bang! The panel beaters quoted $1700 odd to repair the damage, her insurance offered $1600 odd. Kah ching! $640 for a steel rear bar and $1150 for rock sliders. Thank you very much. These items were installed in May 2019.
March was change the gearbox, transfer case and diff oils.
In April, after a huge amount of buggering about changing cables, connectors etc. etc. being a cheap skate, trying to isolate the abs sensor or the hub, I bit the bullet and changed the front RHS hub. Well Kaaaiju did the work. He offered to help and did the lot. Not having the three amigos has been stunningly amazing.

A huge thanks to all of those many people here who have answered my queries. You have been a huge help.

Also, I forgot, I replaced the pads on all 4 wheels, and replaced the brake fluid/bled the brakes, east with the Nanocom. Aslo replaced the rear rotors.

On the books for this year is replace the front rotors, rocker cover gasket, injector loom, front and rear cam shaft bore hole covers, PCV pipe from the rocker cover to the Provent, helicoil the sump plug, which I think was held over from the last year, maybe in the summer I'll bite that bullet.

    Cheers

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

I think I remember reading this one.
Seriously! ... I highly recommend a quick drain setup like the Femco.
There are other brands .. I just chose Femco, and when ordering, I got really helpful email replies from them .. to the point where they saved me a few $s to boot!
Major issue with Femco is that they're European, and with our peso barely worth a couple of cents now .. the bits could be expensive.

But!! .. it's such a joy to drain the sump on the old Tdi now.
I got a few 10L drums of oil(Pentrite), so I now have a few large-ish barrels. Sump now drains directly into the drum, no need to transfer from pan to old bottle .. etc.
Drum's(have a tap fitted) get taken to local council recycle place and emptied.

    Femco clickdrain

Reason for this suggestion is that you never need to remove the plug again. Watch the vid.
You undo a brass cover plug by hand, and connect your click drain attachment(with hose on the end) onto the bung fitted where the sump plug used to be.
Works like a garden hose system .. click on, click off .. etc.

Reason I needed it for the Tdi is that the sump drain plug is angled perfectly so that the first 6lt of oil drains directly onto the front sway bar, and hence the oil sloshes laterally all over the ground, unless I had a 2m diameter drain pan.

On the TD5, not an issue other, but heard many instances of stripped threads, and this system negates the need to undo the plug from the sump. Just a knurled cap undone by hand.
Only issue could be that the resulting new bung on the sump could be exposed to more 'stuff' when offroading. I don't think it's a serious issue tho(going by bros TD5).

There are other brands similar design(never used) .. Stahlbus being a common one.
Hard to find info on the Sump thread pitch on the TD5, but I think it turns out to be M16x1.5.
So in the Femco I think you'd want to look for THIS product to fit the TD5 sump.

    Nice post Julian

Yes replacing the green hose is fun. I had to do mine in a camp ground with basic tools and the Land Rover car jack.

Look forward to to next years year 5 report

    cheers

    A bit I forgot.

I replaced the rear/boot door seal and one of the license plate globe assemblys.
