Is there a small hole in the blanking plate?

I'd suggest you have another issue, not related to the EGR removal....
Check engine light won't appear in relation to the EGR system.....EGR delete warning light/limp mode Nor will it go into limp home mode....

Did you remove all the pipes, block off the vacuum hose, and remove the solonoids?
If so AFAIK there will be no warning light problem.
Mine has been deleted for about 5 years with never a warning light.
No hole in the blanking plate is required.
Did you remove the battery terminals while doing the job? check them.
I have never had a check engine light in 7 years except on the first day of ownership, and I found a loose battery terminal.

I only unplugged the solenoid valve connectors on both my 99 and 03, although I used the 03's throttle solenoid to shut-off intake air if oil pressure was lost after a successful start-up or if powered by a kill switch.

most videos you watch dont mention unplugging the solenoid sensor just to block off the vacuum hose.

I pulled it off and around the blanking plate there was soot on the outside so I say there was a leak there. Put gasket sealant around both the plate and the EGR replacement tube....... hears hoping.

To go into limp mode from EGR delete would likely be overboost. With the EGR gone the boost level will rose marginally.

took everything back off, saw soot on the blanking plate. Put some gasket sealant around it and the egr replacement tube it seems to have fixed the issue. might try and get it to the mechanics to check the fault codes. I want to buy a scan tool but dont want to pay through the teeth.
