    Terrtrip 202

Has anyone fitted a Terratrip 202 Rally computer to a D2, interested what you did for the sensor pickup.

I have run a Monit tripmeter in my old D2a. Find the pulse feed wire to the speedo at the back of the instrument cluster. Was fairly easy once you knew the colour.

Only drawback is the ecu sends a 1sec pulse when stopped so your tripmeter will keep ticking over very slowly when stopped. Something like 10m per 10sec stopped. I had a switch to isolate this when stopped. You could switch to the other sender input on the Terratrip.

Don't really want the cumalative errors as it's stop/start work with the wife driving and me getting in and out and she doesn't like fiddly things....
Was thinking of tapping into an ABS line but might be too many pulse a revolution. Fitting a reliable pick-up sensor is hard work...
Where does the speed sensing come from, gearbox or ABS ring?

Each hub has a Wheel Speed Sensor and inputs from these go to the SLABS ECU. The SLABS then outputs a Road Speed Signal which is used by the Instrument Pack, Cruise Control and ACE (if fitted). Consult your copy of RAVE and locate connector C0504-3 on the SLABS ECU and it’s the pink wire with green trace that you tap into.
PS: many of the “how to” posts on the forum about fitting a Speedo Correction Unit will help too...

I think Monit make a sensor unit designed to tap into ABS feed signals and adapt it to suit a trip meter. Do Terratrip do anything similar?

What type of work are you doing? I've used Terratrip and similar units for many years doing road asset work. These days people don't bother and use a GPS app on a phone or tablet instead.

Stage set up for rallying so lots of short distances between gates and openings etc.. Looking at the gearbox (auto) it has a speed sensor on the output shaft that feeds to the gearbox ECU on pins 14 and 42, which might just do the trick providing the Terratrip doesn't load it down too much, it will be the same type as it will just be measuring a toothed wheel.
