Original engine? When were 16p engines used?

Hey all - so I recently bought a D2 TD5 manufactured 10/2001 with 395,000 km on it. The guy I bought it from said nothing about any reco/other engine having been fitted and there is also no receipt for anything like that in all the paperwork that came with it. Thing is it just seems to run so well and not showing any signs of age you might expect of a now 400,000 km plus old engine; no smoke, no blow by, no oil usage, the thing starts instantly and just runs really nice. Anyhow so I did an oil and filter change on it the other day and decided to find the engine number, which turned out to indicate it was a 16p engine. Thing is I thought the 15/16p did not start until 2002 or later? Does anyone know exactly when the 16p series of engines started being used in the D2s? I was sure from previous reading that my 2001 D2 should have the 10p engine if it was the original donk.

An Oct 2001 built D2 is a 02 MY - mine was the same and had the EU3 spec motor and larger Intercooler.

Thanks for that - perhaps it is the original then. I was a little hesitant at buying a vehicle with a 400,000km old donk, but it was in such great general mechanical condition and I didn't have many options within my budget that I bit the bullet and went for it. I am amazed at how well it runs. Hopefully many more kms in the old girl yet!

There will be plenty of preventative items you will have to watch out for, but as far as the Engine goes it should easily go well past 500K.

Mine was still running strong when I sold with 483K (although it did need a gearbox rebuild at that point).
