It will fit a td5. It's a late model transfer. It has come from a td5 as it doesn't have the temp sensor fitted that only the v8 has
I've seen this, why is it not compatible with a TD5? As ffar as I am aware, it is the gearbox has differences to accomodate the V8 or TD5.

It doesn't leak oil, Its sweating power
The big question is 'how many k's', at an absolute minimum look at new side washers/copper washers in the centre diff. Cheap as and easy to do.

I was thinking about buying, rebuilding , sleeving etc., and having an ATB diff.

Probably depends on many factors.
But few years ago, I was up in Pikes Flat/Bluff Hut country.
Few medium long steep climbs, and (strangely) on the downhill track, I get the gearbox temp light on dash.
Short panic, stop to check, no leaks, warning light on, car off.
I have a IR temp gun. Auto(box) showing 88°C, transfer tho, showing 60°C. Touch by hand to confirm. auto too hold to place hand on, but TC was ok .. like a cup of coffee, hot but not burning hot .. so assessment was that things were OK(which they were).
Turned out that auto box temp sensor was faulty which I knew as even when cold it would sometimes come on.
Have no idea on how this is different to a manual(as opposed to an auto) .. but there's a small bit of info to work with.
If you are too worried about it, you can get a replacement TC 'sump' .. the large angled plate part. The replacement is a bit larger and has a more sump like shape where oil can sit deeper/lower.
IIRC a company called Roverdrive make them, anyhow as the replacement has an area of oil to settle, there is a provision for a temp sender fitment too.
Search for LT230 sump, easy to find .. ~$150-200.
I was going too, but way down the list of priorities, and have never felt it get too much hotter than 'can still place hand on it' type temps.
The last time I checked temps maybe 2 years or so ago out near Broken Hill Barrier Hwy, was 43°C day drive was to try to sort out heating engine issue with AC. Engine reached 117°C (for a short time) pulled up at a stop, IR gun out.
Engine showed 112 at the head area, auto still high 80's TC still mid 60's that time too. Haven't checked since tho.
ps. only reason engine coolant was so high was AC was on(that was my issue), but with AC off, coolant sensor would sit at roughly 85-90.
