    Noisy air sampler

I'm not sure how many others have noisy and intermittent air samplers. Its been annoying me for years, but just not enough to fix it.

I pulled the grill near the key out and checked the sampler. It turned out there was something jammed in the samplers fan causing the problems. It looked like a piece of failed plastic or something.

Trusty tweezers were able to grab it and pull it out... it turned out to be a part label that has come off something, not sure what, but once removed the sampler is working perfectly and silent once again!

    Cheapest fix ever!

How did you get into it? Mine seems to be impervious to my attempts.
Maybe I need to use my heavy equipment strength..

My binnacle was already loose, but if you drop the steering wheel the 2 screws will appear. Remove those and then you can lift it up which will clear top of the panel covering the air sampler. You will also need to open the panel under the steering wheel which will uncover the bottom of the airsampler panel. The airsampler panel should then just pull out, it is held in by 3 clips but I think it the grill also sticks, but that releases.

It’s usually just dust build up so just whack a strong vacuum cleaner against the grille.
AFAIR the grille just pops out and you can get in with cotton buds also.

Well, I will ask the dumb question. What the hell is an air sampler and what purpose does one serve in an automobile? Is it another next to useless piece of electrical trickery that will need maintenance or replacement.

    Noisy air sampler

It is just a tiny fan behind the dash used to draw air over a temp sensor which is used to measure the air temp inside the car for the aircon system.

Can anyone place tutorials etc in the files section?
I have a 2012 document which is nearly 3MB (lots of coloured pictures) that I originally sourced from a post on here that explains in some depth what to do for maintenance.

Maybe should be stated as for the HVAC system. It works with the aircon off to keep the cabin at set temp.
