The 2a has a polycarb lens.
Ours have a glass lens, but the reflector is plastic.
Yours obviously stood up ok to the heat?
I wasn't game to use the globes I used in the Deefer so went with Phillips plus 130's.

The best thing to do is upgrade the wiring harness. From the factory all the power for the headlights goes through the hi/Lo switch on the steering column. You can only put so much power through the factory loom. Upgrade the harness (or make your own) so that power goes directly to the lights from the battery via a relay. The relay will be switched from the headlight switch. This way you can use heavier wire and have less voltage drop (higher current) at the globes.
Yep, absolutely no probs at all with the reflector. I've had 2 probs I suppose really with the 90/100w H4's, one was the electrical socket melting, but the Traxide loom replaced and fixed that problem. The other was driving through water at night which cracked one of the lenses. Other than that, for the D2 it is a really good upgrade with 90/100 H4 globes and traxide loom. I've tried the plus globes, but I think the 90/100s are brighter without putting it on the dyno so to speak. Up until recently, the headlights have always been behind perspex protectors as well.
I've always used the Narva 90/100 H4's, if you do, just note there are 2 types of H4 it seems, one of them has a slightly different base, more circular than cut out and those ones wont fit into the D2. Never guess how I found out. :wallbash: :lol2:

I really did like the 90/100's in the Deefer but I wasn't game with the Disco.
I honestly can't tell the difference between Plus 50's compared to stock, (used them in the ex's Patrol) but the Plus 130's do make a difference.
I have been trying to get better lights for a while in my 2002 D2..
First I had 130/100 through a loom. No problems but yellow light.
Next I tried LEDs.
Too white so diabolical on a wet road and patchy low beam.
I currently have HID shutter type bulbs which I ordered in a low Kelvin , about 4000 AFAIR.
They seem to have good cutoff and I have not been flashed by anyone. Confirmed by garage wall test and left shift is very evident.
Low beam is still a little patchy but light on road is very good.
HID are much brighter than most LEDs. I have the 50watt ones.
Downsides
Cannot do quick headlight flash as take about 1/4 1/2 second to light so no warning to others of speed cameras.
The street signs like the white and red markers are really bright .
One option that I always wonder about is those replacement 7 inch round for the D2 sold by a bloke in Sydney. BUT I don't think they are left shift.
For a D2A I would try HID for the high beam . You get the whole wiring loom and transformers for a very low price and they are a good colour if you choose 4000Kelvins. The delay these days is 3/5 of Fanny Adams.

i upgraded from HID's to LED's.
i rate LED's better than HID's. HID's are good but LED's are just superb.
