This leads me to think that the issue is not the dowels but one of temperature. Too hot and everything expands and the head can shuffle, steel dowels or not.
I hope so anyway![thumbsupbig]
Mine has now done 211KK and I watch that water level like a hawk watches a lamb.

the mind boggles how the heads could get so loose and still have enough pressure to bend the dowels...
Thanks Ian, went with a set of AMK head bolts and Victor Reinz head gasket, seem to be the weapons of choice for the more knowledgable indie repairers out there these days.Quote:
