Good luck with that 7 year thing... [bigrolf]
Someone just had to come along and interrupt my nice little fantasy [emoji852][emoji1787]
There's always one, Andrew! [emoji849][emoji23]
Penrite have replaced the 7 year product with their Green OEM Coolant < GREEN OEM COOLANT CONCENTRATE | Penrite Oil > which is an 8 year product. Though I don't get why you'd choose this over their Blue OEM coolant < BLUE OEM COOLANT CONCENTRATE | Penrite Oil > which is the one that they actually recommend as being suitable for the Td5 engine...
I'm not a fan of OAT. Just my preference to use HOAT and the difference in cooling efficiency when using a cooler top hose thermostat on a V8 is negligible. Seems to hold in without leaking out and might be kinder on gaskets.
Cheers
Apologies for bringing this back from a shallow grave. I've just noticed the coolant level on my Td5 isn't quite where it should be. It looks red in there, and I've asked the previous owner what he used to put in (bought the beast at the start of the year) which he replied to with a link to red Penrite OAT, and a comment: 'something like that'.
Now looking at Penrite and Repco, they both say the red Penrite is allegedly not compatible with the D2. Is this just alluding to the fact that Penrite recommends their blue product for the D2, or are the contents of the red Penrite genuinely to be kept away from a Td5?
Old mate is not being any clearer as to whether he used 'something like that', or exactly that one, so I'm even hesitant to top up 'unknown red' with Penrite red, after reading tales of coagulation with bad combos... I have a feeling this is headed towards bleeding the system and changing the hoses while I'm at it, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get around to it before the mercury rises.
Many thanks
Penrite Red Coolant contains silicate ( can gel up on the oil cooler on TD5's , not good ) Penrite blue has no silicates
Nulon type A red coolants are silicate free.
Whatever you choose , you will need to find / fix the coolant loss, flush the system and refill with the right one
Penrite make a universal coolant, that could be the solution until you have time to flush and replace.

Yep, I've spotted a couple of crusty sediments, I've cleaned it up and tightened the hose clamps, will keep an eye on any resurgence of pink bits. Looks like the hoses have been swapped relatively recently though, I've seen a 2016 date on one of them.
Sounds like either there is Penrite red in there, and shouldn't be, or there is some other red OAT which I can't top up at random, so I'll definitely have to flush the lot... Thanks for the reply.
being a land rover, i prefer my coolant to be an oil/milky colour.
