In the footwell the top side of the upper cardboard kick panel has a foam rubber liner glued to it which holds onto water - peel it off and you might find evidence of past water ingress. Below is a pic of mine....

Where does the water get in...?
In the plenum space at the lower edge of the windshield is an opening where the blower intake is bolted - see pic - rising water in the plenum drain space can seep in between the duct to body interface. Also if the plenum cover does not have a good firm seal against the windshield glass it will allow water to pass and the water will drip off the bottom edge of the glass directly into the blower duct mouth.

Hi again all. Just had the Disco out with the Nanocom in instrument mode and nothing showing on the speedo info. So I guess this means a SLABS problem. Pulled the footwell cover off and everything is bone dry so it's not a dampness problem. However, when I pulled the cover off, the connector shown in the photo fell down. Can anybody tell me what it is?Attachment 161854
Anyway, I now have more investigation to do which, given my ignorance of electronics, will be interesting. I'm willing to have a go at testing the continuity of the VSS circuit if Sierra will be kind enough to tell me how to go about it! If I can't do it myself I can take to my sparky and it would save time if I can tell him what's required. It still seems odd to me that there was no problem until I changed the ABS sensor.
I'll just add that when the new SLABS was fitted, I also fitted a Hunterdi speedo corrector so I suppose I should check this too.

That's the ACE ECU plug, read again my post and do the output test for speedo before you go further cos if the speedo reacts to that the problem is certainly with the ECU, if no reaction to the test see RAVE- Electrical library - Connector views for the connectors i mention and check continuity with multimeter between C0504 - 3 and (the plug you found)C0647 - 5 (pink/green wire both sides) eventually check C0290(shown by @onebob) pink/green wires
Thanks for all your input Sierra, you are an absolute legend. Pardon my ignorance (again), but how do I do the speedo output test on the Nanocom? When I go into "Ouputs" in the SLABS section of the Nanocom and look at the Speedometer there are 2 buttons - ON and OFF. Clicking on either doesn't seem to do anything.
Since you've told me where to test for continuity, I can probably manage that. I remember the pink/green wire from fitting the speedo corrector. Also, my vehicle doesn't have ACE so do I still need to check C0647?

When you push ON the speedo needle should move along the scale cos the ECU sends a test signal so if the speedo doesnt react to that means that the circuit is interrupted or the ECU is fubar. The continuity check to C0647 can be relevant cos even if you dont have ACE the VSS is linked to that connector too so if there's no continuity can point to an interruption in C0290 where the signal splits if you see what i mean...also if you have continuity to 0647 check to ECM black plug C0657 - 13, the VSS is same colour wire all the way... i cropped the relevant part of the diagram so you can follow how the circuit goes from C0504-3 and see each connector's view
Knowing now that you installed a speedo corrector is important information - have you verified that you still have 12V feed. Where are you taking the 12V from for the speedo corrector ? NB: is cruise control working ? NBB: The speedo and cruise control both take their signal from the header connector. If one is working and the other not, then that will direct further diagnosis.Quote:
