I fitted the new hub on Tuesday and, touch wood, the amigos are gone. I did it according to www.discovery2.co.uk / Front Wheel Hub / Bearing Assy and it was an easy enough job. Why anybody would even think about following the RAVE procedure I can't imagine. I torqued up the nut using the standing on the breaker bar method outlined earlier in this thread. The old bearing was looking pretty ropey so I'm not surprised that the sensor was misreading. So, thanks again to everybody for advice offered.
